96 road master transmission problems

Hello everyone I'm a newbie, I am the original owner of a 96 buick road master . I had the transmission rebuilt and only drive the car on the weekend. Everything under the hood has been replaced.I paid 1600$ to have the transmission rebuilt and 3 months after the transmission went out or so I thought.I had the transmission shop pick up the car and they can't figure out what's wrong with it.he said the computer isn't reading the solenoid so they are going to test all the wires going to the transmission.has anyone ran into this problem?

You might have better luck at the 4l60e forums. The transmission in this car is one of the most, if not the most, common transmissions in the world. There are literally millions upon millions of them and there are people out there that know everything about them and you can find some knowledgeable ones on that site.

Welcome to the forums!! If you have a solenoid that is not activating, that should be easy to see with a capable scanner, which will show what gear the trans is currently in while shifting. You did not mention what the symptoms were when you had the trans shop pick up the car??

Before I had the transmission rebuilt there was a loud pop.I knew the transmission was gone. I took the car to the shop ,they dropped the transmission and said it was gone.he pulled out parts and showed me what it looked like and showed me what the parts were supposed to look like. When he started to rebuild my transmission he called me so I can see the new parts going in. As a project car I didn't drive the car ever day only on the weekends. One Sunday morning I was driving the car and the car seem to have lost all power in drive as if the forward gear was gone.I called him to pick the car up.The next day I called and he said I had a short in the transmission.The pcm wasn't reading the solenoid and he was trying to find the short. I was thinking of buying a new pcm since it was the original. Not sure if this will fix the problem or not. The car will be going to the machine shop for a engine rebuild next

so the transmission shop rebuilt your transmission and one Sunday morning after the rebuild the 4L60E lost power,now the shop that rebuilt the transmission said there is a short in the same transmission they just rebuilt....Hmmmmm??? doesn't that sound funny to you.....I had AAMCO off of cave creek rebuild my 4l60E with performance parts and I ordered a TCI Street Fighter TC , they took 3 days from start to finish, and Derrick(aamco) even made an entire video for me(pulling the transmission out/ rebuilding /and installing it back in), I suggest you take your transmission to someone that has a good reputation building these 4L60E's....

The transmission ran good for 3months.it just went out one Sunday morning

I have seen this too many times on 4L60E's it seems. People have them rebuilt then they last usually much shorter than a year. Unfortunately its a difficult tranny to build correctly and people also will say anything to charge you 1500 for a rebuild that costs them about 400. I encourage people to buy a built replacement from one of the popular online stores that sells different stage trannys. Those people are usually the ones that specialize in the 4L series and can build them to last longer than stock and hold more power. That is what I encourage, and that is what I will do when the time comes.
