99 Buick Park Avenue Ultra Vibration/02 Sensor Issues

Probably if it vibrates when braking otherwise it won't do it. I still have the vibration its weird because it vibrates then stops then vibrates again then stops and so on. I ordered my wheel bearings on Monday so should receive them this week. I'll see if thats the culprit.

Greatly appreciate your help so far guys! I'm going to order new DEA mounts for the engine soon; I just returned to college, so time is not on my side, but intend to get to this stuff soon. The wheel vibration occurs regardless of whether the brake is applied o not, but I need a brake job anyway, so I'm going to replace my rotors and pads in one go. I'm thinking ACDelco Durastop Ceramic Pads and Rotors are a good way to go, and I can get them cheaper on Amazon than the cheapies at the local store. And they should dust considerably less.

Also, I'm starting a new thread asking for people's recommendations/experience with aftermarket CV axles. I'm going to have them checked over, but my research has indicated that bad engine mounts can wreck CV axles, and at 152200 miles they are probably due for a change anyway. I would like to get some feedback before I pluck money down for a set.

I have the same off and on vibration between 55 and 75 MPH. Not a wheel out of balance as I had balance checked and tires rotated. No change, so installed new tires and balanced them. A little better but still there.

Have changed out a LF hub and a slightly worn transmission mount and had shocks, steering, A arms etc checked by two different mechanics. Engine runs well and plugs new.

Did wheel bearings help your problem?

Quick update:

I just put on AC Delco Durastop pads (ceramic) and rotors. We also changed the left front wheel bearing, since that is what my recently purchased Actron CP9580 brought up code-wise. Turns out that the front end woba-woba noise was not the bearing at all but my front left tire! We looked at it carefully and found it unevenly work on the inner side. However, this isn't worn-in like a suspension issue; 5 or six individual tire knobs, for lack of a better name, were different heights! I have no idea why that is, other than my dad saying that the compound that Cooper used must have settled differently in each spot.

Didn't really need the bearing but it did clear all but one of my ABS codes. The last one I have is C1232, the FL sensor short. For some reason I can;t clear it; the Actron can't even erase it. If anyone has any ideas let me know. I'm going to check the wiring when i have more time.

Anyhow, the vibrations are still there but I am sure now they are just engine mounts and that my CV's are fine. Gong to try to get it to a GM technician who's a friend of my Dad's so I'll keep you guys posted. Time's a little short for me now that I'm back to school.

I just replaced my front Trans mount and it eliminated most of the vibration. New rims and tires soon

Hey,

I know it's been a while since my last post, but I've finally got some news on the car. It turns out the vibration had nothing to do with the mounts at all; my #4 fuel injector was failing!

I've had very little time to look over my car since the summer due to senior year at college and work, so I let a friend of dad's look over the car for me with intention on replacing the mounts for me. He specializes in GM vehicles and has done so for a long time. He found that it wasn't the mounts or suspension, but that darned injector! Apparently it was intermittent because sometimes it fired fine, and others it simply quit. This definitely explains why my fuel economy was so poor too; I was only averaging 15-16 mpg even with gentle throttle and 93 octane.

He still is checking the suspension to see of there is anything I should replace due to the mileage (155k), so I'll keep you posted. Thanks for your help so far!

All right, those of you who called coil pack when I first posted this are probably right. My mechanic told me tonight that the fuel injector helped a lot, but there is still some misfiring, but it's not tripping the CEL. He's checking the coil packs now.

I'm hoping it's not a LIM gasket leak, though I don't recall the supercharged models having that problem since the plenum is aluminum not plastic, and if it were leaking I'd be having a host of other problems by now.

Blast, all right thanks for the heads up. We'll see what happens now...

Alrighty, I'm trying not to be one to open up old posts, but I finally got a resolution to this thread's issues so I figured it would be best practice to post what happened.

To recap, I originally posted asking about two issues: Bad O2 sensors and vibration/rattling from the front. The O2 sensors were fixed quickly when I had the catalytic converter replaced, and they still are functional to this day, but the vibrations went on for ages. It went through two state inspections and one other mechanic without finding anything amiss.

Well, there certainly was something amiss. Every time I accelerated, turned a corner under throttle, or went over rough road there was a distinct vibration/rumble from the engine bay that turned into clattering pounding at its worst. The one mechanic I had it at was so sure it was a misfire (despite no OBD codes regarding that) that he spent two weeks going over the fuel system, but of course even after a fuel injector replacement for the #4 cylinder it still remained.

So today I decided to bite the bullet and take it to another mechanic with two new transmission mounts from RockAuto in the backseat with the instructions to replace them as he saw fit. I got a phone call three hours after dropping the car off; it was him telling me exactly where the vibrations were all coming from. It was not the CV axles, it was not the vacuum hoses causing rough running, it was not failing ignition coils, a loose supercharger, a bad supercharger coil, or bad spark plug/plug wire combo. It wasn't even those blasted engine mounts I had purchased and given to him.

THE TRANSMISSION, LADIES AND GENTLEMEN, WAS BEING HELD ONTO THE ENGINE BY ONLY 1.58 BOLTS!!!!!

Honest to Pete, he asked me right away if anyone had ever worked on the transmission before, to which I replied "Yes, the previous owners had it replaced at 80000 miles or so". He said whoever did it didn't tighten the bolts that held the transmission to the engine and sub-frame properly, and all but one were completely missing, while one other bolt was broken off inside the engine block! Out of six total, only one actual bolt was holding the whole drivetrain together! The source of vibrations has been the fact that the darn thing has been flopping around inside the engine bay for the last four years at least, growing worse as each bolt loosened and fell off. It got so bad that he stated one of the "ears" that the bolts go into had broken off, leaving nothing to mount with. Needless to say, he promptly fixed the issue for a reasonable price. And Holy Jiminy Christmas, does she feel like a Buick now! She is Smmooooooooooooooooooooooooth! It feels like there is no engine in there when driving along, and the screws don't back out of the dashboard every time I accelerate either!

While I was never had the chance to apply it, I want to cordially thank everyone on Buickforums.com who gave their two cents about the above problem. It was greatly appreciated and very informative to me. I now know more about the setup and analysis of my car's front end than any service manual could ever help with. And while my incident is (hopefully) an isolated one, I imagine there are many Park Avenue owners out there with vibrations that will find your information very useful, especially in one concise thread. Thanks again for your help, and keep on (smoothly) rolling!
