Got a question about adding pictures to a post. I know how attachments are uploaded, but how are larger images placed in a post where you don't have to click on the attachment?

First, you have to upload the photo to a picture hosting service that allows public direct linking to the photo. Personally, I use PhotoBucket. Another popular photo hosting site is Flickr. Facebook may even allow you to hot-link directly to the photos you post on your account. I wouldn't know, though, because I don't use Facebook (anti-conformist here).

Often times, you can find the direct URL to a photo on any website by right clicking on it and going to properties. A lot of people "hot-link" to photos that is hosted by someone else by doing that (e.g. embedding a picture that you found in a Google images search).

Once you get that direct URL, copy it, then click the "insert image" button under the advanced reply page on this forum and paste that link in the window that pops up. You can also insert an image quickly by manually typing the code:

Code:
[img]Your Link Goes Here[/img]

I think you can even use the photo sharing service in Windows Live SkyDrive which IRQ Conflict seemed to have problems with (hint: don't use the code in the "embed" link they give you - use the link under the properties window explained above). If you can see a large picture below, then it seems to work fine.

Anyway, I hope that helps.

I also use Photobucket and just copy and paste the link for the image.

Ok, I've got a photobucket account, uploaded a photo and let's give it a try:

It works. Great! Thanks for the help.

I tried doing this a while back but was doing something wrong. Probably choosing the wrong options in photobucket. Sometimes it's easier to just post a photo than try to explain verbally so this will be handy.

the colour of that water looks like Muncho Lake in BC?

Ok, I've got a photobucket account, uploaded a photo and let's give it a try:
