2018.5 Regal Tourx Essence White Frost Tricoat
My dealer pitches an aftermarket paint protection package called Super Polysteel. For $995 I'm not sold on the idea. In general I decline all the extra add on's and extended warranties. Anybody have any experience aftermarket paint protection products? I have the White Frost Tricoat and I assume that color will be expensive to touch up if (when) needed.

That website has zero actual information on it. If it's so good, why the secrecy, and why dealer only?

If you really want protection, check reviews and contact local detailers. Most dealers don't have professional detailers on site, so even when they use good products, the quality and attention to detail just isn't the same as someone who does it for a living.

$1000 can buy a number of high quality hand wash/wax/quick details.

Edit to add - my dealer had a $1k markup for a similar item, and I negotiated it to zero. Nobody could explain what it was, or how it was better than a $20 wax job.

Have you ever heard of "Snake Oil" sold in a bottle,or can?

What was it that P.T. Barnum said ?

I guess they can justify the price because it's "Super" PolySteel, not "Regular" PolySteel. Add this to the list which includes upholstery protection, window etching, etc. 😎

Your paint IS the protectant, ask the dealer why you need to protect the protector.

Irate Customer : I sat right here and said I didn't want any TruCoat.
Jerry Lundegaard : Yeah, but I'm saying that TruCoat. You don't get it, you get oxidation problems. It'll cost you a heck of a lot more than $500.
Irate Customer : You're sitting there. You're talking in circles. You're talking like we didn't go over this already.
Jerry Lundegaard : Yeah, but this TruCoat...
Irate Customer : We had a deal here for nineteen-five. You sat there and darned if you didn't tell me you'd get me this car, these options, without the sealant for nineteen-five.

The names change but the results are usually the same......

AND...if you act NOW without thinking, we’ll apply the Super Duper Extra Special Polysteel at the Super Price!

Back in the 1970's I worked at a Toyota dealer. They pushed something called, I believe, Polyglycoat. The dealer applied it by hand like a wax and only applied it to certain upper reflective parts of the car. Spend your money on something else.

Can say for all...but I have a 2016 F150 that we bought used (lease trade in) and it had the Poly Steel coating on it...always shines and always getting complements on "how good it looks"...all I do is run it through a car wash and it looks like new...have the kit to keep it "touched up" but haven't used it yet...think I'll use it on the Harley and see if I get the same results...Like you..don't know if I would have added it to the new car/truck for $995, but now that I have seen how well it protects I wouldn't hesitate...

The auto group I buy my cars from put Super Polysteel on all the vehicles they sell free of charge. It is not something I would ever pay for. As someone who has purchased many cars over the past 40 years. I offer these steps to keep your paint show room new:

1. Was your car every two weeks or as needed. Go to a good car wash, not the gas station drive thru kind. Why? Because you need to get that brake dust off of your alloy wheels or it will abuse damage to the finish if left on too long. The accumulation is usually most evident on the front wheels.

2. If you have a garage, use it for your car, not your stuff. If you need more room, get a storage shed. Your kids’ bikes and your broken treadmill aren’t worth as much as your new car. Garages or carports keep harsh sun off your paint and interiors in addition to protecting against sprinkler water, which can damage paint depending on where you live; hail storms (I’m looking at you, Texas). Garages also save you a few defrosting minutes and snow removal in the morning.

3. If you park near the wrong tree (as we all do on occasion) and your paint gets misted with tree sap, have your car was guy clay bar it during your next visit. Don’t let it sit for too long.
