First off let me say I’m so happy to have found my home amongst other Buick owners/enthusiasts. I hope as I go through this journey that I will be able to contribute more from my experiences going through different areas of this car. With that said has anyone swapped over from the original glass fuse fuse block over to a painless fuse block with the modern horse shoe fuses. I got this in the mail this morning and the wife says I have a few more things coming but she isn’t sharing. Not sure if that is good or bad but we shall see. I’m curious if anyone has had any experiences with changing over or should I just scrap this all together and stick with searching high and low for the glass tubes when I blow them?

Unless you are constantly blowing fuses, which means you have more problems than the fuse box, there is no reason to change the fuse box and go through the fun of changing it because you want a newer fuse type.

Have a look around this site,

I still don't understand the "search high and low for glass fuses". Seems like one box of 5 for each amperage should last forever unless there is an unresolved issue. Have a 71 Pontiac and 69 Chevrolet and cannt recall the last time I had a blown fuse in the last 40+ years.

I’m just asking questions and doing recon as I’m just going through the car. Nearest auto parts stores 45 mins away and I didn’t find any glass fuses. I know I can order online and recently found some at the marine shop. I got the painless fuse block as a gift with the car. I haven’t tried powering anything yet. I just rebuilt the front end and going through the brakes at the moment. Next will be power/electrical. I have a new engine harness from the firewall to engine installed. Who knows what electrical gremlins await, just thinking ahead and learning parts aren’t readily available locally like 20+ years ago.

Lately, I feel like I’m in one of those Dr Rick commercials perplexed at the current sticker price for a group 24 battery that has quadrupled. I guess I have officially become my parents 😂

Now your situation makes more sense. Is the Painless box identical to stock or generic? Are you doing a lot of modifications or want to remain original?

Goal is to get her road worthy and go from there. I don’t plan to do any major modifications outside of the drivetrain way down the road. Everything is original with the exception of the Chevy 350 and 350TH and now disc brakes. Painless fusebox looks to be a generic 11 fuse 14 circuit box
