Auto headlight help

My Buick Encore 2016 has started chiming when the key is taken out and the door is opened. I've realized that it might be because of something having to do with the automatic light system. When I turn the light control all the way counterclockwise--instead of momentarily turning to "auto off", it momentarily turns to "auto on", and then when released, immediately turns to "auto off" again. I can't figure out how to make it stay the automatic lights stay on again. And not sure why this started happening. Any tips?

If you leave it on auto, shut off the engine, get out of the car and close the door after a minute or so do the headlights turn off?
If they dont you may have a bad light control module but testing would have to confirm that.
