Blown engine on a 2013 Regal.

So, last Friday running down the freeway the engine lost power and started blowing an amazing amount of white smoke. I had it towed to the shop, which they said the engine is trashed… so being the best option for me would get this car back on the road with some additional power. I’m not all to familiar with this engine and it’s comparable options. It has the “V” engine code. The question being.. what’s the best option to get the most hp’s from a replacement engine for this thing? It’s not a daily driver.. more of a fun dad car. So nothing on the needs to be stock.. it already had a tune, intercooler, down pipe which pepped it up nicely. I’ve seen that some of these engines have the potential of 400+hp. The car is in great shape and would be used for weekend “spirited” driving and taking my boys and gf to car shows.. so any input would greatly be appreciated.

Could be a simple head gasket problem and motor may be ok. Depends on how long the engine ran in this condition and if it caused piston/crank damage

I’ll look into that further.. the engine did have just over 111k. I’ve only put 14k miles on it since I purchased it about 14 months ago. I did run it an additional 3 miles, getting me to the next freeway exit, which seemed to be the safest thing to do. My intention is to have a built engine capable of pushing 400+hps reliability enough to just use on weekends and events. My bigger question would be, is there a certain engine which is used in these Regals that I should look for, or better to avoid?

Yup.. just registered with zzp and created an account.. I’ve contacted them and just waited on their reply back. They seem to be the “go to” for these engines and power mods.

Highly recommend ZZP also. You have the lhu, which is the best. ZZP says the stock rods are good to 400-450. Hopefully it's a head gasket, although not common. With the zzp Z54 turbo and all their bolt ons, they told me I'm around 400 at the crank on 93. Is yours a manual?
