Bought "NEW" event car - warranty issues.

So oil change is 1 year or 7500 miles, whatever is sooner. As the car has been used since March 2018, now it is time to replace oil. But I am actually more concerned with warranty missing one year and also other minor things dealer promised to fix but did not fix. Today was my 3rd time trying to pick up a car which I was promised over the phone was fixed, but never fixed when I came in. I almost exploded.

  • Oil was not changed (they told me via phone they did);
  • Car was missing a second key. Guess what? The second key they ordered was not programmed;
  • Car had several dings on the roof, likely hail. One ding was not removed and also had fresh scratches around it, as if someone tried to remove it but only made it worse.
  • There were a few other minor dirt stains on the doors and seats which I did not bother to check as soon as I realized oil was not checked.

I made a formal complaint to GM today. I lost like 1 hour on first visit, when they gave me a loaner. 2 hours on second visit when I realized the car was not cleaned and found whole other list of issues. And another 2 hours today... all for nothing...

The car is 2018 Buick Regal Sportback with 411 miles sold as NEW. Dealer told me it was "event" car.

My 2018 had 100 miles on it when I took delivery. My warranty from GM states the start date from day of purchase, plus an additional 100 miles added to the total mileage covered. My dealer submitted the info to GM without my involvement, so I suggest maybe you should contact your dealer.

Same here. The mileage the car had when it was sold to me is treated as "mile zero" for counting off the warranty, and the time is calculated from date of purchase.

Checked mine last night, ditto for me on this.

Hi All!

The car is 2018 Buick Regal Sportback with 411 miles sold as NEW. Dealer told me it was "event" car.

I bought a NEW car from dealer (at least they told me so). However when I go to my.buick.com it says your warranty is "3 Years, 19 Days Remaining", when it should be very close to 4 years.

I just took the car to dealer to complain about this and also car requires oil change (computer reads 9% oil life left) and a few other issues with the car. The dealer told me that because this car was an "event" car, the warranty is already ticking, and they cannot reset it. They did not tell me anything about warranty when I paid in cash for the car. Is this normal practice?

I have a whole bunch of other complaints about the car that dealer promised to fix, but it's a 3rd time I am coming to pick up a car and it is not fixed. Every time something is not completed.

Please advise if warranty less than 4 years is normal practice for an "event" car?

Thank you

Have you picked up the car yet?

I believe you have the right to refuse to take delivery, no matter what you have signed or paid.

Some of you have the full warranty miles, regardless of how many miles were on the odometer when you took delivery. Others have the warranty date and mileage already ticking.

This is easy to explain.

If the car is backed off the new car carrier at the dealership and driven around the lot, and taken for test drives and sold two weeks later with 100 miles on it, then the warranty, for example, would be good to 36,100 miles and 3 years from the date of purchase.

BUT, if the dealer decides to use the car as a courtesy car and puts it "in service" and drives it for 2 months and 2,000 miles, THEN you buy it - it is still considered a NEW car, but the warranty is only 2 years and 10 months and for 34,000 additional miles from the date of purchase.

NOW my question has to do with the window sticker . . . The law says that new vehicles must come with the window sticker attached (Monroney Act). But what about these "in service" cars?? They are "new", but is that the same word "new" for purposes of the Monroney Sticker? Do demo cars, which are sold as "new" have the same Monroney Act requirement?

My Regal was also a "demo" I bought as new, with 3200 miles on it. I did have to ask about the warranty, but they informed when I asked that the warranty was from when the vehicle was first put into service, so basically I got a 3-year 3 month, 46800 warranty. That was no issue for me, and it was $2k less than the same optioned car with 0 miles on it, so worth it for me.

I can't remember though if I had to sign some kind of acknowledgment that I was getting a car with a reduced warranty. I'll try to check my paperwork

Edit: Just to add for clarity, the car was advertised by the dealership as a "demo", so I knew going in that I was looking at a vehicle with miles on it.

Hi All!

Thank you for all your replies, and apologies for disappearing. I picked up my car and I guess I will agree with "reduced" warranty. They only complaint I have is that dealer did not tell me about "reduced" warranty.

Thank you again for your feedback and information!
