Boxes From Germany: A GS Modification Thread

I would be interested in the how to, along with pics showing how much you can see in the rear view mirror.

By chance where did you buy the spoiler? Only had one vendor respond and their quote for an unpainted spoiler seemed a bit far fetched.
I will say this, the original rear headrests block more of the view than the larger spoiler does. It's really just a 1/2" tall sliver that only spans the center 2/3rds of the rear window. Certainly not a detractor but I will definitely get some photos of that as well!

As far as the vendor, you will find all of the details in the first post of this thread. But in short, I ordered the parts from Adrian at blitzparts back before the major supply chain disruptions. Since then, it has seemed to be more difficult to import parts. Adrian hasn't been active in almost a year and no longer responds to emails so I've heard.

Cost... cost is a detractor and it was still plenty pricey when I purchased mine. The primed OEM spoiler cost $300 and there's overseas shipping. That particular shipment contained the rear tail lamps and a switch as well so the exact shipping cost for the spoiler alone is unknown, but came out to $180. Then throw in another $400 for paint (the best price I could find and still guarantee a job well done) and it's a costly modification.

This does not include the DIY disposables needed to complete the job. I will be sure to list all of the tools and items used w/prices in my How-To.

In summary, I wanted the OEM part and found a way to justify it. However, there are many aftermarket spoilers from China that are very similar in design and some that even look better, subjectively. These are a cheaper alternative but fitment nor quality is guaranteed.

anyone done the paddle shifters?

I've got them and I almost never use them, and when I do it's just to play with them because they're there. Bragging rights about sums them up. They don't offer any driving value in my opinion.

The only time you'd really make use of them is on twisty roads and then you need to know where the wheel is, as one side is up the other down, so the functionality changes from one side of the wheel to the other as you turn the wheel.

If they were forward and back on either side to up/down shift then they might be of some use. As they are now they're really just ornaments IMO.

10-4 I thought had gotten it from Adrian but hoped there was another source. Thank you as always Jack!

I'm gonna tag @GranSport2019 in this thread too. He mounted the same spoiler back in 2019:

GS to GSi Convert

Definitely check this thread out if you have interest in making modifications to your Regal. Between the two of us, we should be able to answer any questions concerns regarding all of the above.

Fellow forum member GoinManta imports many parts for Insignias from Europe. I dealt with him in the past and highly recommend sourcing Opel's parts from him. Recently I sourced from Charles the complete Insigna steering wheel at a fair price point.

In the past, I purchased several Opel parts from Adrian but he went silent again... It looks like he is focusing now on car keys only.

The difference is the brake and turn signal function. Instead of the brake and turn function being the same bulb on our Regals, other markets have separate brake and turn signal functions.

North America: incandescent brake/red turn
Everywhere else: LED brake and incandescent yellow turn

The Holden Commodore with brakes applied, for example:View attachment 24213

It's not plug and play, but @Anaduff has figured it out. More on that in this thread: LED Backup and Turn Signal Bulbs
Any knowledge on the part number of this rear holden and how installation works?

Didn't drive the GS at all last year and I'm just now getting it fit for the road this year. With that, some progress was made. I have finally wrapped the 20" Opel Insignia wheels in Michelin Pilot Sport All Season 4s (255/35r20). The 255s are plenty meaty but I'm liking the look.

If anyone was curious, the stock wheel and tire setup weighs in at 51.4 lbs. These 20s and 255s are a hefty 60 lbs per corner. I'm not racing, so I don't really care about the extra weight.

Does the extra weight differential at the corners make it handle even better?

Typically you want as little unsprung mass as possible for improved handling. I've done the exact opposite by adding nearly 35 lbs of unsprung mass.

I haven't pushed the car since I put the tires on but I don't expect to feel any difference in road driving.
