- 2005 Buick Century
Hello Everyone,
I'm kind of new to this forum (had an old account I made a few posts on) but wanted to introduce myself anyways. I recently completed a successful bucket seat swap on my 2005 Buick Century. I believe the seats I used were from a 2006 Chevy Impala at the local junkyard, and surprisingly they dropped in without any modifications. The seats still need a proper cleaning, but they do feel nice for factory bucket seats. I originally planned on purchasing a set of Regal seats for my Century, but unfortunately didn't have a drill battery to get the seat to slide forward to access the rear seat bolts on the Regals driver seat. If anyone is looking to do a seat swap for their own Century, I know that certain year model Impala seats will work. I also tried getting seats from a 04 Impala, but again could not get access to the rear driver seat bolts. I managed to test the passenger seat from a 04 impala in either a 02 or 03 Century. I dropped the passenger seat in the Century after finagling it into place, and it lined up. After realizing I wasn't going to be able to get both seats out of the 04 Impala, I started looking at other cars, found the 06 Impala, and the rest was history. I'm so glad I was able to get the old 60/40 split bench seat out of my Century because the seats were stained with grease from working as a heavy equipment mechanic, and I for the life of me could not find any universal seat covers that would fit. The wiring for the seat harness wasn't too bad either. I used a total of 9 wires for my application and the colors are as follows:
Light Green - ?
Dark Green - ?
Light Blue - ?
Dark Blue- ?
Tan/Brown - ?
Yellow - ?
Black - Ground
Red w/ White Stripe - Power (Impala Side)
Orange - Power (Century Side)
I'm not real sure what each individual function is for the first six wires listed, but I do know that it is for the power adjustment switch on the driver seat. I ended up removing the connectors from the bottom of the Century seat and wired them into the Impala seat. I did this by cutting a 6-pin connector on the Impala seat that plugged into the seat motor with the first six wire colors listed, and then cut a connector off of the Century seat with the same color wires. After wire nutting all of those six wires together, I wired the corresponding power wires together (Orange to Red w/ White Stripe) and Ground (Black to Black) then tested the seat and presto, it worked. If anyone is attempting this, it's not too difficult of a job if you don't mind a little wiring and seat lifting. I'll try and get some pictures posted on here tomorrow to show exactly what they look like. Thanks and have a wonderful day.
