Hello,

When I first begin driving my car in the winter time during freezing temperatures I notice a creaking sound when I turn my steering wheel...this sound goes away once the car has warmed up. Has anyone else had this issue? Is it something I should be worried about?

Thanks!

I have the same problem. I figure its either the intermediate shaft bearing or the steering shaft seal thru the firewall. Dont really want to take it in yet just for that, though.

Are they just getting condensation that freezes on or is it a larger issue you think?

I honestly dont know. Considering where the noise is coming from, and GM's problems with steering shafts on different models, it made sense to me that its one or the other.

The strut mounts like to do this as well, I had the same problem last year with one of mine. It happend a few times in the cold, then eventually did it all of the time. Replacing it took care of the issue completely. I have a 16 Premium II just like you.

I have the exact same issue. My creaking sounds seem to come from the front driver's side wheel well. Also not sure to address it now or wait for the next service, which will likely happen in much warmer weather.

That's exactly where mine is coming from! I'm actually due for service tomorrow, so I think I'll mention it. My Android auto has never worked either so I'm going to have them look at that too. I'll keep you posted if I get any answers!

Hey, I was just curious if got an answer. We had two really cold days and my Regal was creaking like crazy. Odd thing is, it drives fine once it's warmed up.

I realize this thread is dead, but the sound has gotten much worse this winter. I figured I'd capture the noise and see if anyone else has experienced this.

Yes, like I posted before upper strut mount. Had one start doing it under warranty. Had the other side start to do it on the coldest days this winter. A touch of silicon helped until it was driven in the rain then it came back again. Expecting to have to do the other upper mount eventually because of it.

Thanks. I missed your comment earlier. Is that a costly, major repair or is it a basic wear and tear type of item?

I think Garfi3ld may be right.
I had a similar noise coming from my Right front wheel area.
If I remember right, I think it was the Upper Strut Mount.
Funny thing, it happened to me in Warm Weather.
Can't tell you how much it cost, mine was covered by my warranty and
I also had a Couple Small Leaks fixed at the same time before they
became big leaks!

nkucz,

I know this post is over a year old, but if your 2016 Regal didn't have Android Auto
Installed from the factory, you will most likely now have to pay for the Upgrade to
Android Auto.
In the beginning it was a Free Upgrade, but over the years Dealerships started
charging for it!

Well, I was told it would $2K minimum to replace the strut mounts (and the parts are hard to find due to shortages, etc.), as the whole assembly would have to be removed and replaced. That seems shockingly high. But they also said nothing is wrong with the struts, the car is drivable, and I could very easily just live with the noise. And that is what I will do for now.

I'm not sure if what you were told is true or even if what I was told is true?
I was told not to drive it, but that was before they had my car and only
suspected it was the mounts.
It very well could have been $2,000, my bill was $2,700 or $2,800.
They did fix two Leaks, I never asked what the leaks were and how much
it cost to fix them.
It was all being covered by my warranty, and I didn't care because it was $0 out of pocket!
Now I would care, as my warranty has run out!

I've had the exact same problem on my 2016 Premium for the last couple of winters. It goes away with the warmer weather so I never really worried about it. It's annoying, but not $2000 annoying. I thought maybe it was a rubber bushing or something because my car will do it when it's sitting still.
