98' Regal GS -- 00' Century
Hello, can someone tell me what the next best thing to check after the fuse for the cruise control that is not working? I looked above the brake pedal and it does not seem to have a cruise control switch located there or at least I cannot see it. The car is a 98' Regal GS. Thank you

Do your brake lights work?

You should read your owners manual. It has good information on this.

Yes Brake lights work fine. I found the cruise cntrl switch that is near the brake pedal removed and replaced it and still no luck. More then likely its prob the turn signal "multi switch" and after that if its still not fixed ill prob have to change the cruise module box near the shock tower.

One of the first things that most folks recommend is to scan it for codes and then use those as a guide on which systems may need attention.

Or continue throwing parts at it.

While earlier systems may have limited info to share, you don't know until you ask.

Here is a link for you to download the service manual:

Thank you for the link!

I was looking to remove and replace my multi turn signal switch and I saw a 2-wire harness {1 black, 1 green} unplugged under the steering column. I assume this is the cruise control plug? I can NOT find where this plugs in. I looked everywhere around the column, to the side of it, and removed the 2 big plastic covers behind the horn as if i was going to remove the multi switch next and still can not find where this plugs in.?

I also have a 2000 Century and took the lower dash apart last night to see where that 2 plug harness (I'm pretty certain it's part of the cruise control system) and saw where it's plugged in on the 2000 Century. The 98' Regal has a bit of a different steering column on it and does not have a additional mechanism attached to the steering column for the cruise cntrl harness to plug in at. However it has every option the Century has and many more.
I've spent so much time trying to fig out where this harness plugs in at, it's not funny lol. I switched the cruise cntrl switch on the brake pedal before this and also checked the module on the drivers shock tower and that and all wiring seems good also.

Does anyone know if the inner vehicle speed sensor is inside the transmission or out? I can not locate it. Do I need to remove the transmission pan to get to it on the 1998 GS with the HD transmission? Thank you

If you mean 4t65e transmission, inside side cover according to a search.

Yes the 4t65e. I read somewere that the Park ave ultra and the Regal GS both came with a "hd" version.

Yup it looks like the inner is inside the trans. I was hoping I could just drop the pan and valve body but it looks like I would have to drop the subframe afew inches to gain access to pull some door off to gain access. That's going to be a little hard for me to do because im limited on space. Also before I do that I have a question if anyone here can help me with?
When I 1st start the car and put it in gear, as soon as I start accelerating at about 2 mph I here a clinging sound acouple times as the car starts rolling then does not come back until I restart the car and put it in gear again and accelerate again. Just on 1st start and 1st acceleratrion it does this. I lifted the front of the car up and had my daughter spin the tire while I was under the hood and that noise sounds like it is coming from the a.b.s. module that is near the firewall closer to the passenger side. My a.b.s. works and I have no cel or any lights on. I have a strong feeling this is related to the cruise not working and was wondering what you all think, anything else I can check becuse of that?
