My car was throwing a 1404 and I went to replace the EGR valve and while putting the new one on I dropped one of the nuts and it's trapped someplace . Didn't hit ground and I can not see it. Does anyone know the nut size for the bolt ? Also, how do you get the nut on the back bolt with the heat Sheild in the way? I tried to remove the heat Sheild but couldn't find a socket to fit it .

Ok well apparently Lowes does not sell 13 mm flanged nuts 🙄 guess I'll have to order some online . Does anyone know the bolt measurement? 1/4 inch ?

Can you take the nut off the other side and match it up at the hardware store, or just use a washer. The flange isn't doing much. Whatever nut they have with the right threads will hold the EGR valve in place. The heat shield, I just put the nut inside the socket and held it in place with my finger and got it down onto the bolt threads, using an extension . You could put something on the nut to hold it in the socket if needed. A dab of silicone sealant would probably work, or even some type of glue.

I actually got a regular nut with washed from Lowes as they didn't have flanged nuts in the right size. Figured I would use that temporarily until I found the flange nut but if you think it's ok to use a washer and nut I'll just slap it on in the morning. Thanks for the tip on getting that nut on the back bolt 🔩

Nuts are measured from the inside threads & studs are measured from the outside diameter. You must have 7.9-mm studs & there is no way the nuts would be 13-mm, which is nearly 1/2 in! Go to Bolt Depot - US to Metric Conversion Table
and learn more about US vs Metric bolts/studs & nuts.

Yeah I was watching a video and the guy said 13mm . Maybe he meant 13mm socket? 16mm is an inch and there's no way the nut is even close to that

Yeah, 13-mm OD is nearly the same size as a 1/2-in socket.

Actually an inch is 25.4 mm.

yes... but the question wasnt whats the exact conversion of an inch to mm. a half inch being close to 13mm(Because 26 is close to 25.4) Is what the discussion was lol

Yes that's the one. Lowe's didn't have flanged nuts so I just bought nuts and washers to fit. The $30 replacement EGR valve isn't working as I'm still getting a code stating EGR valve stuck closed. Will be receiving the Dorman variant from FedEx today. Fingers crossed this will fix the problem . Thank you

is your egr adapter have a bunch of caked up carbon or the tubes caked up? And did you reset the battery or reset the codes to confirm its operation? If you look at live data while running there should be a EGR Commanded and EGR Actual in % that should react to engine status. (off idle but not WOT should have EGR flow)

No the EGR wasn't caked up with carbon. I was expecting it to be . The thing I side the tube actually moved when I pushed it in . I need to get this fixed fast because my gas mileage is stuck in the teens 10 -17🤦‍♂️

Oh and yes I cleared the code after replacing it . After about 10 minutes of driving the light came back on

I put the $75 Dorman EGR Valve in this morning. I cleared the code and ran a few local errands. About 2 miles or so worth of driving which includes returning the cheap EGR valve 😂 . Hopefully the light stays off 🙏

It may take about 50 miles of driving before the EGR monitor is activated to test the system. I hope the problem is resolved!
