Engine misfire, ticking noise and hole in the valve cover

No it was a request not to do one, seen enough flying videos. Yes staring at a engine making a noise video, take the video to a mechanic and ask what it is and what they will charge for the repair. The Oscar committee reviewed it and well better luck next year.

Glad you finally got to using a stethoscope and narrow down the location, I guess that part was at least followed.

Another update: - I think it must be the camshaft that's making the noise and that is an engine out job, so I replaced the engine with a low mileage one from a crashed car at the scrap yard. I put new seals, plugs, wires, etc on the new engine. and fingers crossed, all is good. The car starts, runs doesn't make any funny noises and so far doesn't appear to be leaking any oil, coolant or gas.

thanks for the response. I think the hole was drilled with a dull drill bit, as it is clean hole on the outside but the inside shows damage, as though a dull drill bit was pushed hard and not allowing a smooth drill through.

The rocker arms don't appear to be damaged and I should get the push rods out today. I also thought it could be a broken valve spring but they all appear to be ok.

I believe that cylinder 3 is the cylinder under the oil filler cap and the valves appeared to move fine when I ran the engine with the cap off and looking through the oil filler cap hole.

Probably someone changing the alternator put the longer bolt in the wrong spot and went through the valve cover tightening the alternator down
