Pretty much title. Concerned that maybe I put the vacuum pump on wrong and am causing issues. I noticed that the vacuum pumps have an "L" and "R" however the notches in the cam shaft both seemed to fit and Chilton doesn't say anything about lining them up.
The car was running relatively good previously, with no check engine light, however with oil leaks. Valve covered needed to be replaced to fix leaks, then brake assist went out so vacuum pump needed to be replaced. Now oil leaks have stopped and brakes are back but the car turns on and then stalls at low RPM, also is running pretty rough somewhat suddenly. Getting codes for Oil Pressure and Cam Shaft Position Sensor (I also put one of these in, due to proximity to the previous oil leaks and know they need to be re-learned, which hasn't been done yet.)
Sorry if this is a lot, has been stressful. This car was bought for me at auction by my dad because I've basically had 5 years of non-stop car trouble and have been very self sustained forever. I've had it for about 2 months and put around 1000 miles on it. Took it to a mechanic today that said there's a compression issue with the engine and it needs to be replaced so really no work was done besides diagnosing the compression issue. All of these issues seem to have sprung up directly after vacuum pump repair though so would much prefer to know whether I possibly did something wrong (misaligned L and R on vacuum pump, or need to have camshaft position sensor re-learned) or whether this is more likely existing issues coincidentally coming to light. The car was transferred between several small car dealerships in the months prior to auction (could they have used some product to conceal the compression issue?) Also I was VERY careful during the Valve cover gasket replacement to not let anything fall into the engine. Aside from very very small debris I'm confident I didn't drop anything into the camshaft area.
