I'm wondering if anybody else has noticed the gas pedal in the 2001 Century is a little stiff and responds heavily to minimal depression of the pedal. I'd like to know if there is a way to alter the sensitivity of the gas pedal, kind of like modifying trigger weight in a handgun. If possible, I want to lower the sensitivity of the pedal so I would need to press more firmly to garner heavy acceleration.

Thank you!

I think the pedal weight is governed by the spring on the throttle body under the hood. I suppose that you try to obtain a stiffer spring for it.

IDK what your car feels like, but my '94 actually has a pretty stiff pedal, so you might be able to improve your pedal feel just by getting a spring off of an earlier Century. You could go to the local junkyard and feel the pedals in different cars to see what you like.

You could also rig up a spring to act on the pedal itself, fastening one end to something under the dash and the other to a hole drilled in the accelerator pedal lever. That might be the easiest and most fine-tuneable solution.

Thank you for the help! I located the spring under the hood that moves from the tensioners connected to the gas pedal. I tried my friend's century and noticed his was much softer, so I'm off to the junkyard to find one I like.
