Gas Smell

This has been a ongoing problem for more than a decade. I own a 2005 Buick rendezvous amd despite all the complaints in 2005 Buick continues to build the same way as to not fix the problem. I also het gas smell, primarily during remote start. And Buick continues to say they dont smell it. They will not admit to it for fear of liability.

Hello Roger2619, I recently had this issue on my 2005 buick rendezvous, I have a good auto shop near me that I trust with my cars. They said I had some cracks in my fuel lines. When they finished the work, the smell was gone and hasn't bothered me since. Its been about three months since I've taken it in and no gas smell, so that could be the issue you are having, especially if you still have the original fuel lines.

I have a 2003 Rendezvous that I inherited from my mother-in-law several years ago; it has always the problem of smelling like gas. I recently found a letter from the dealer stating a recall for the problem, which was to replace the connection between the gas filler tube and tank. Unfortunately, it was never done. I recently inquired with a local Buick dealer about paying to have it done; I've read somewhere that recalls don't expire, but he told me that they don't work on cars that old! My wife attempted to have it repaired but the shop kept the car for 3 wks. Gooped up the connection with who knows what and said it was the best he could do. The problem lives on. haha.

The problem was that the connection where the fuel filler house entered the tank would crack, and leak.

My Aztek and Rendezvous had this problem. My Aztek I was able to get it covered under the recall for 1/2 price. My Rendezvous, I had to pay for... And let me tell you, it was not cheap.

The fix is to replace the fuel tank.
