Buick Ownership
2002 Buick Regal
I just inherited a 2002 Regal. Excellent condition, low miles (69k).

Have been driving it the last 2 weeks after replacing a worn out wheel bearing and it's been a pleasure to drive.

We're having a heat wave in the area I live. It was around 100° outside. We were sitting in a Starbucks drive thru lane and the engine just stopped, no warning. Pushed it out to the street, and couldn't get it to start again for half an hour, and even then it ran for a minute then died again. After texting some buddies, one recommended removing the fuel cap to see if there was pressure, and lo and behold there was. After that, the car ran great and got me home with no problem and no CEL.

Is this a common issue anyone else has had? Can anyone make any recommendations?

Thank you so much in advance,

Brian

I had been having similar issues with my 2003 buick regal 3.8 supercharged. It would randomly die while driving at times. I then tried pressing the throttle pedal to keep it idling and running. I replaced the Mass Air Flow sensor and it fixed my problem. You might try cleaning it before you replace it. Also look at the idle air control valve. It may need cleaning also. Both parts are near each other and 2 screws hold them in. Just look up a video on YouTube for how to replace them.

Im not sure what to think about removing the fuel cap for pressure could be. There is a fuel pressure sensor usually built on to the top of the fuel pump. I don't see that as being a reason for the car to die unless its loosing fuel pressure and that can be checked with a fuel pressure gauge.

Best wishes in your repairs.
