How many miles on your 3.1?

^^^^ That;'s true! Witch is why I got another Century to replace my white rotted, dead tranny one!

1999 century with about 250,000 miles. just tuneups and oil changes. Runs great and no leaks or no using oil. knock on wood. Had a wire short by the radiater cap. Took 2 hrs for a good mechanic to find Might have only taken 1 hour without my help.. The started kept running after start up. Had a new rack and pinion. need to put in new fuel filler neck because of rust holes keeps turning on check engine light.

If you read me previous post I just bought a 2003 Century with 2,600 miles in showroom conditon; however, I still have a 1998 with 121k and the 3.1L engine is still strong and has no issues. My take on these engines and from everyone I have spoken to is that if you are careful with oil changes and basic stuff, they will go well over 200K.

Newbie Century owner here. I recently got a '97 Century Custom FREE because of the typical intake gasket issue. The rear trail arms were rusted/rotted, too (also semi-typical). So for just a few hundred bucks, I think I made out pretty good! It currently has 82K miles, and runs brand new, after the repairs.

Just turned 79,000. 98 century custom.

2003 Century just turned 63K. Typical grandfather/grandmother only drove it to church and grocery store; grandfather died and it was passed to my fiance (marry in 1/13). Working on doing routine maintenance now such as plugs which I'm having trouble with and started another thread here.

About 120K on my 2000 Century, bought it used in 2010 with 75K on it. So far no major issues except EGR valve, battery, tires, the usual dead odometer LED issue and window regulators. Coolant change and trans fluid change last year. Engine ticks, but seems to run fine. Just drove it from St. Louis to L.A and back, about 80MPH most of the way, ran great, gas mileage around 29mpg or so. Doesn't seem to be using oil or such.

Previous owner bought it new, it was his wife's car, small town, she drove it to work 3 times a week and her husband had it detailed every 2 weeks. Met their son-in-law after I bought it, he gave me the lowdown. Like I said, small town.

137,000KM so About 85,000 Miles on my 99 Century and still going strong. No issues so far 😀

165000 KM, Already changed Intake gaskets and head gasket.

Replaced Drivers side window motor.

Other than that pretty much routine stuff.

Since the intake gaskets are common problems on these 3.1 motors are you guys replacing them with higher quality aftermarket parts so they last longer or do you just buy OEM, or maybe even just buy the autostore brand?

97,800 on my 2001.I hope my daughter and son can use it for another 100,000.

136k and going. LIM gasket hasn't gone but I plan on doing it in the summer when I swap my L82 LIM/UIM and TB to an LA1 LIM/UIM and TB. Also plan on converting to the MY 2000+ style overflow tank and airbox as well. Also intrested in having a trunk poper so I am not stuck using just the keys.

Trans is fine and engine eats almost half a qt per oil change.

Getting about 23 MPG mixed city/freway and 27 on the turnpike

List of things that were replaced was:

*Front sway bar
*Motor mount
*Door and deck speakers(haven't figured how to rig factory tweeters yet)
*Radio
*Both front and back armrest latches to keep them closed
*Both Oxygen sensors
*Drivers door switch cause lock button was M.I.A.
*Cabin air filter
*Reusable engine air filter
*Fuel filter
*Gutted the air box a tad
*Spark Plugs
*Pads and rotors
*Left right and center tail light assembly

1999 Century Custom - 36K miles! Just bought it from my "little old lady" mother in law. She took exceptional care of it.

I got a 2000 century with just 99,500 miles on it.
It got the notorious manifold leak. Soon gonna fix it.

I'm trying to get a metal gasket, since I heard it lasts assumably forever.
But I'm not sure if the acid affect the metal. Probably the metal would be stainless.
