Get the GM part number for the VCIM on your vehicle and check Ebay as a used one should be available at much less than GM. Not sure on your year if it's will need programming at the dealer, but contacting OnStar may be something to consider if they can reassign it. Sorry not sure on all the various years on what is needed, maybe someone else on the forum can confirm on installation setup.

Why would you even want to keep @ pay to have an Onstar system? I drove cars for 60+yrs without Onstar and never need that kind of stupid option that I had to pay to activate!

I guess some people like the assurance of a system that will supposedly call for help when they are not in a position to do so. Having said that I agree with you in that I don't feel the need to pay for a subscription to OnStar.

I have vehicle insurance that will pay for any towing & AAA for road side assistance and towing as a back up. I don't need some satellite from GM following may every move/location and destination!

If the OnStar unit hasn't been disabled it's still tracking similar to cellular phones. With some years the VCIM with the OnStar is integrated into other functions such as Bluetooth and radio so disabling it may not always be optional. If paranoid about tracking and the VCIM has to remain active buy a used one and don't get it reprogram as it will still be tracked as the original vehicle ID it was removed from.

To each there own. Surprisingly there are people who think working on vehicles and detailing them is a waste of time and money, go figure!
