Title says it all! I have a 1981 Riviera that I'm restoring for a customer, and there is no power coming to the tail light assemblies. I have "new" assemblies that will arrive in a few days, however, that will need to be wired and I will need said diagram. Even a pointer to the right direction would be of massive help. The vehicle has the 5.0 V8. Thank you one and all! 😀

US taillights are among the easiest to wire. If your "restoration" needs to be COPO, then dismiss what I'm about to say.

From the headlight switch, find the connector for the exterior lights (aka, running lights, marker lights, parking lights, taillights), and then run a brown wire to the rear on the left side, then extend it to the other side so that the rear of the car has taillights from the one wire.

From the turn signal switch, which also controls the brake lights, run 2 wires, one yellow and one green, to the rear along the left side of the car. The yellow goes to the left, and the green goes to the right.

From any metal at the rear, use either white (like on trailer connectors) or black wire to supply a ground to each lamp.

When you're done, you have brown (running), yellow (left brake/turn), and white or black (ground) on the left side. On the right side you will have brown, green (right brake/turn), and white or black.

Splice them into your new sockets, add bulbs, and test for proper operation.

The fuse panel should already have your protection, so using the switches just taps into them after they've been protected by their respective fuses.

Voila! Bob's Yer Uncle!

For back-up lights, run whatever color you want from the switch on the transmission shifter and use the same ground wire as you do for the taillights.

Thank you SO much for your kindness and detailed response. The guest will be restoring this over the course of time and needs the vehicle back by this Saturday. We're in need of making sure these taillights work for safe operation on the road! I will keep this thread updated as we move forward with the wiring fiasco.
This website has been really helpful. I'm super appreciative of the community y'all have here

I always like to check the simple things first. On most cars, the tail light harness plugs into another harness in the trunk area. I would look there first.

If you were the owner, I would recommend you buy the Chassis Manual,

Very Good! Best money he will ever spend.
He brought it in today and oh goodness, it is a MAMMOTH! Would it be okay if I put up some photos/scans of the wiring diagrams that are in the book for future reference? Like, for others to see who may be looking for this information?

I don't see why not. I do it all the time on other boards.
