Lock in back hatch

why won't my back hatch lock on my 2019 buick encore? Any ideas? There is warning signs, and no noise when I try to lock it.

There's no separate lock for the back hatch. It just locks when it's closed.

If you have the key fob on you, pressing the button on the hatch will open it, it will appear to never lock. Is that what may be happening here?
