I run an 85 Monte Carlo on the salt flats and found out about 2 months ago that the 7.5" rear end (at least the pinion yoke) can't handle the 500+ hp the motor (AFR head, roller cam, etc. 406) is making.
On its first WFO run, the pinion yoke snapped and although I have a front driveshaft loop, the rear end of the shaft was spinning at around 4000 RPM (I'd just shifted into 4th at just under 140) and it kinda wreaked havoc on everything underneath the car as well as killing the transmission. The whole story's here:

So I'm looking for a stronger rear end. I'm hoping someone here has an 8.5" for sale. I don't care if it's posi or peg-leg, nor do I care if it's a 3.42 or 3.73 as long as it's the 8.5 type.
If ya got one, please contact me with details.
TIA,
