I just bought a 2000 Bick Cenury Custo. The previous owner lost the door keys, and allways used the remote. I would like to get keys made but need to know if the door keys have the same cut as the Ignition (chip) key. The chip does not let the key go all the way the door lock. I need to know so I don't have to pay a locksmih to "code" me a key..

The door & ignition keys are a different cut (code). Any authorized GM Dealer can cut the door key by the VIN number. Usually, you have to show proof of ownership and show your license as an ID. Call around for best price, since the price seems to vary widely. I had the same problem last year with one of my cars (Buick) and since I have inside connections at a Chevy dealer, they cut me two door keys & said it was on the house. 😱

The Buick dealership near me charges about $30 to request the key shape based on VIN and then another $8 per key cut. Doesn't seem like a terrible price, but maybe the rates are better in your neck of the woods.
