Lost the windshield wash reservoir cap

I went to fill my washer fluid this morning and the cold weather must have made the plastic brittle because the cap wasn't connected to the strap anymore and it fell down somewhere and I can't find it. Is it OK to just stuff a sock in there until I can get a new cap? 👎

For now, cover it with a small piece of aluminum foil.
