2016 Encore Premium AWD Leather
I fully realize that the 1.4 turbo Ecotec motor is no hotrod motor...but, manual-shifting it - it's not THAT bad...it just has no sound...(suppose most Encore owners are NOT interested in more 'sound'!!)

Anyway, there are TWO 'cats'...(one small downpipe cat and one larger one) then a 'resonator' - then, finally, at the back a 'side-to-side' rear muffler with a single exhaust tip.

I know that Chevy Cruze owners with the same Ecotec 1.4 remove the rear mufflet (lots of videos on YouTube!)...but there re NO Encore 'muffler delete' videos!!

Anybody have any experience with rear Encore muffler deletes?

Thanks for any help in advance!

James

I think we need a nation wide ban in the USA & Canada with decibel inspections on obnoxious/loud exhaust noise. It is getting out of control in my area, with rice burners running without any exhaust system. That is a dumb-ass modification! It does not do anything but make noise, which is dumb & immature!
My vehicle doesn't make many more decibels than it did before. It sounds a little throat here. Please do not equate me with some kid that drives a civic with no catalytic converter or muffler and has a so-called 'fart cannon' on the back. I did a muffler delete to see if weight and improve the sound quality of my vehicle.
I fully agree with you that the noise level on motorcycles and usually older Honda Civic's and the lake, is becoming intolerable on city streets. In our city there is a new byelaw and officers will be fining people heavily - with machines that produce higher than allowable decibel levels.

THROATIER / not 'throat here'! Sorry. Never and trust your phone to interpret what you're trying to type!

Why do people want loud 4 bangers? They sound terrible. Get a V8 if you want it to sound tough.
I would caution you that, I am not advocating loud 'four bangers'. The eco-tech motor is not a hot rod motor but it does have good valve technology and is capable of producing a fair amount of power. I am not interested in modifying my motor to produce more power, I just wanted it to sound a little nicer than the current effect which sounds like someone put a rope around the exhaust pipe and tightened it down to about a half an inch.
30 years ago, I had a Fiat 124 sport which had a 'stock' Abarth twin tip muffler. I believe the motor made about 110 hp. Nevertheless, it sounded great and it was not loud or obnoxious. just because you drive a Buick, doesn't mean you have to drive a car that is silent. Consider the grad national for example. I mentioned in an earlier post that I used to have a 1997 LeSabre with the 3600 V6... I did a bit of exhaust work on that and it produced a glorious sound. Not noise, and not loud. Just better. Unless you want an electric car, I can't see the point of deadening the sound output down to where there is not even any understanding that there is an internal combustion engine inside...Someday we may be all driving electric cars that are silent. Not yet. Good.

The Grand National was intended to be hypo from the get go, and had the muscle to back up the sound.

Too each his own if it works for you. I've yet to hear a good sound coming out of any 4 cyl with more open exhaust. My '06 HHR was an LT2 with 2.4l engine, and had a bit of a growl to it when getting on the gas. That was factory tuned. As much as I loved that car, it was something I could have done without. And that car was far closer to a performance car than the Encore. Both my 2016 Silverado and my wife's 2016 Encore are really quiet, especially on the freeway. I can't see the point of adding noise.

Regarding laws, the laws are already there. Back in the '70s and earlier, they were enforced. I had a friend who had cherry bombs on his 69 Road Runner. They had only 4 inches of pipe after the muffler. Every time he drove the car a cop would follow him at some point or other. He eventually got a fix it ticket. But the police don't bother now. They don't even monitor speeding like they used to in most municipalities.
