NE Potholes

So after hitting a couple potholes, which are almost impossible to avoid in RI this year.
My car started smoking, I thought just burning engine oil, but it smelt like rubber, not oil;
Upon further investigation my driver side rear, I think strut, is sitting on top of my tire.
My other side strut:
& My busted one:

By guessing by the pictures, what do you think needs replacing?
Both rear struts, or just new springs and ect.?

What does the top strut mount look like? I think I remember hearing some other guys from the northern regions talking about those failing due to rust. Their solution I think was to weld a new metal piece at the top strut mount - I could be mistaken.
 
In the first pic, it looks like you have a busted spring, on the second and third pics, it looks like the spring seat failed. Overall it looks like you were due for strut replacement anyway. I would replace them as a unit. It's always wise to replace both at the same time. The suspension takes a beating. It's safe to assume that if one side fails, the other side is soon to follow.
