My Buick LaCrosse is in near-perfect condition inside and out. Except for one thing: the temperature control (the middle knob) does not function as it is supposed to anymore: Turned fully to the left, it's fine: The left knob turned to max still produces a very strong air flow with the A/C switch on or off; the fresh or recirculated switch is working too. The source of flow -- right knob -- works and its rear windshield defroster switch are just fine as well.
But for the first time ever, turning the middle knob to the right into the red zone (to warm the output) now decreases the air flow until there's almost no air flow when the middle knob is all the way to the right. So setting a less frigid A/C mix works poorly, and in full heater mode it works hardly at all (just a faint trickle of hot air).
I'm concerned about winter when I'll need at least defrost to be hot and strong (which I've tested and is also producing only a faint flow when the left knob is set to max speed and the middle knob is set to max hot).
My local Buick dealership tells me that the particular air flap that should open to airflow coming through the cabin heater core is not functioning properly anymore. And that it would cost a fortune to repair it, involving a removal of the whole dashboard. 😵
I'm really hoping that someone here has some better prognosis! My desperate thinking has me considering a very small portable heater that plugs into the cigarette lighter - a tacky, inconvenient solution at best.
Thanks for any advice you have!
