Buick Ownership
2002 park avenue
i’ve had my 2002 buick park avenue since summer now and it’s been awesome it was in perfect condition with 112,000 miles on it , i’ve been keeping up with oil changes every 3,000 miles but i’m concerned about something and wanting to know if i’m worrying over nothing.

Lately it’s been not wanting to start sometime and my check engine light was on for a month or two but i’m still in school so paying for more than just a oil change is hard for me so i never got it in to find out the problem, eventually the light just went away.

Then i tried to start my car afew days ago and everything turned off but my check engine light came back on i turned it back off and on again and it started and the light went away, the thing about the light is it doesn’t light up period not like how every other warning light does when i start up my car to make sure they all work it just doesn’t work period anymore.

I hear a fast ticking sound or like clicking sound when i start my car like 3 fast clicks and then it stops and sometimes it shakes a little when i start it and sometimes just won’t start right away, i thought it was my battery but mechanic checked it and said it was fine and id need to bring it back to find the problem,

My transmission is going out i don’t know if that could correlate to it at all and what’s going on but it just shifts hard especially when i haven’t drove it in awhile you can hear and feel it shifting gears.

Is this normal behavior? should i be super worried? i love this car and i want to know if this is something worth more looking into or if it’s normal car things since it is a older car

You need to bring it to AutoZone or other parts store that does free scans when the check engine light is on.
Did the mechanic check the condition of the battery cables when he checked the battery?

Your conclusory statement your transmission is going out is meaningless because you said the car was perfect and low mileage. Zero reason to infer it’s going out.

The startup issue is most likely going to be relatively minor but you refuse to get it scanned. So until you do, nothing we can do to help.

The check engine light should come on at key on engine off.

Confirm that the light yiu saw was the check engine NOT the service vehicle soon, which is on the opposite side on the top. That light means a vastly different situation, and it’s poorly explained by the owners manual

Scan the car, get the code or codes and fix it. As for the transmission, it doesn't matter if it has low or high miles. The 4t65e is a crap transmission thats very unforgiving. Unless all yours needs is the transgo kit, fresh fluid, filter and upgraded magnets. If you do change the fluid, do not use the crap pan gasket that probably comes with the filter. Use your oem gasket or a oem aftermarket type. Make sure you also torque the pan bolts properly and do the proper pattern.
