I got a 1999 Buick Century about a year and a half ago, running synthetic oil, at 149k. All is well so far. I have put all new ACDelco platinum plugs in it (oem type) new fuel filter, and changed the air filter and oil when needed. Had all brakes replaced 2 months ago.

When I first start it in the morning, it turns over a little bit then cranks, but sometimes it starts right up. Also it sounds like a slight faint tapping or knocking while it warms up and idling. After running though it isn't as easy to hear, and it gets better everytime I change the oil (as in it doesn't sound as obvious). I'm not sure what that is, and also, is there a way to check the general exhaust system or to tell when it or the o2 sensors need to be serviced?

Also, anyway to bypass or get rid of stupid chips on keys etc and the security system in the lock cylinder? highly annoying, I've gone through three keys since I've had this thing.

Other than that, this is only my second car, and I'm not very auto knowledgeable, so what all maintenance should I be doing to keep this thing running past 200k?

Sorry for all newbie questions.

I have a '98 Century with 27K and do the same maint. I also have the same behaviors during startup. Not too worried about it as it runs pretty well for an old goat.

I have a 1992 century it turns on the engine light above 35 40 mph turns off durning deceleration runs good shifts good blink code is 26 for the quadra drive modulation the plug for the tcc is not unplugged is the sensor bad or the ECM can I run wires to a switch and turn lock up on the converter on when I need it hope to get some info on this

Do not worry. If there are no codes (service engine light) then you are fine. Its sounds no different than any other older Century. Take care of it and it will last you over 200K!
