I am the proud 2nd owner of a 2017 encore preferred with all the bells and whistles except the upgraded engine. It has 58 K miles. It was purchased from a Buick dealer and had an excellent service history from new.
Having seen multiple posts of the intake manifold check valve failure I ordered the CruzeKiit repair kit and a Billet breather from CFM as an extra layer of protection. The breather arrived 3 days ago and I installed it immediately as a safeguard. The repair kit is arriving in 2 days.
Today I decided to call the dealer service department to ask if I could get any other services that were performed on the car other than listed in the carfax. He told me that the cam cover had been replaced recently but nothing else worth noting. I asked him directly of his experience with failure of the intake check valve. He told me to stay away from the internet, they do not fail! I found his remarks interesting since I had read the opposite, 100% failed.
Tonight we were heading out for some groceries , I pulled the car out of the garage and my wife noticed some oil drops on the garage floor. I opened the hood and found oil all around the billet valve that I installed as a safeguard 3 days ago. I then checked for the intake check valve , GONE! I am not sure what kind of Karma this is, this morning the dealer tells me that failure of the check valve is a non issue and this afternoon, mine fails. I am very grateful for the information available on this site. I believe that the CFM breather did its job and no gaskets were compromised. There were no drivability issues and no CEL. I had looked under the hood this morning so it must have just happened. I plan on installing the repair kit when it arrives and count my blessings!
