Replaced battery, now digital portion of dash goes on and off...mostly off with black screen. Possible cause?

Make sure to clean all of your battery connections and try again. It could be a coincidence but it's often best to just go over your work and check. Could be a loose connection or some corrosion in one of the terminals.

You always should use a memory saver when disconnecting a battery on older cars with chip based electronics.

I've disconnected and replaced my battery quite a few times with no ill effects. He probably has bad solder joints on the instrument cluster. These 2000 and up clusters have had problems for some folks.

I have a 46 milliamp draw and never had an issue with the Driver Info Center. Battery was disconnected over a dozen times while try to figure out why I had a dead battery every week and a half or so. Disconnected my OnStar unit and haven't had a dead battery since. Remote Start works fine too.
My point is that it's probably either quite a bad connection or more likely a defective cluster.
I guess we'll just have to wait for the OP to report back when he gets a chance to double check.

If you try other options, there's one a repair guy on radio suggests when modules and things act funny.
He takes off the positive and negative on the battery and clips the power wires together for an hour. He
claims that this completely drains power out things on the car to get a complete reset.
I have never tried it for any problem, so I offer it at your own risk.
