the intermittent function on my wipers does not work. it will move 1/2 of a revolution (to straight up) then stop after backing down a little. the mist function works fine, and they work fine when i hit the washer tab. on their last time up they hesitate as they go down. is this normal? could this help indicate the problem?

do i need a new multifunction switch? it seems almost nothing works on it. no cruise, no washer, wipers dont work...

Hi nhyrum,

I would be happy to assist in a resolution to these issues you are experiencing. Have you visited your local dealership for a diagnosis? If not, I would be happy to assist in scheduling an appointment for you. You may send a private message at any time with more information. Thank you!

Sounds like you might need a new MFS. You're better off getting one from the JY. Its much cheaper, and it gives you the experience of taking the column apart on a test car before you do your own. It is a little tricky getting the cover off as there is a screw that can easily be missed.

Do they "park" straight up (go to that position instead of at the bottom) when they're shut off? There is a little tab on the wiper motor linkage that likes to bend out of the way. This little tab is what makes the wipers park in the "down" position. Your little tab may have bent.

they do not "park" straight up when theyre off, they will just park straight up when on intermittent, when they should normally "park" at the bottom. after they run the last stroke to shut off they pause for an instant straight up, then return to the bottom.

that was my first thought, that they were basically 180* out of phase, but they "park" at their normal parking place.

I think you're looking for a new Wiper Motor Controller - aka Wiper Motor Pulse Board Kit http://www.ebay.com/itm/ACDELCO-OE-SERVICE-88958396-Wiper-Misc-Wiper-Motor-Pulse-Board-Kit-/321077876824?pt=Motors_Car_Truck_Parts_Accessories&vxp=mtr&hash=item4ac1bb9858

If you do a lookup on google for this part number you will find it available at a lot of places. Looks like it's around $50. Or you can get a new motor and the circuit board for $80+

Of course you'll want to just check your unit to make sure that the connection is good on the motor before you start throwing parts at it.

I had this problem before. It turned out to be the nut that holds the wiper arms on had loosened up. Gave them a 1/2 turn and they have been fine ever since.

I thought about that too NFortin98 but I just assumed that he had already checked that. It's always good to check the easy stuff first. Thanks for keeping an eye out.

I have the same "they do not "park" straight up when they're off, they will just park straight up when on intermittent, when they should normally "park" at the bottom. after they run the last stroke to shut off they pause for an instant straight up, then return to the bottom. that was my first thought, that they were basically 180* out of phase, but they "park" at their normal parking place", issue as Spriteman above. I changedbuick wiper trans.webp on advice from a mechanic and nothing changed.( I got one used from the wreckers) and they are EXACTLY the same. I saw on line it may need a wiper motor pulse board ( where do I find that?)or a multi function switch on the steering column. I shud add it's a 97 Buick Century Custom with only 110,000 kms ( 60,000 miles) Pls help - It won't pass a safety check like this.

The wiper motor pulse board is part of the wiper motor itself and must be changed as one unit. I know that this is a common problem on Fords, But I am unsure about on GM's.
