Hello everyone,
I've had absolutely NO problems with my 2004 Lesabre - that is, until this week.
I was driving a few nights ago and everything was going fine. Then, I turned on my high beams and they burnt out nearly immediately. Almost directly after this happened, a message appeared on my Driver Information Center which read "check charge system". It was at this point where I switched over to my voltage gauge, which read 12.1 volts. This was troubling for two reasons - the main reason being that I was driving 60MPH on a highway, and the secondary reason being that I just bought this battery for $300 almost a year ago. (When my high beams burnt out, I hadn't pulled the stalk all of the way, I pulled it far enough where the high beams AND low beams were on at the same time)
Now, moments after I switched over to my voltage gauge, my entire car had DIED. The headlights went completely out, as well as every other light in the car. I pulled off of the road and cycled my key. My car was not starting, but my dome light was now working and my hazards were as well. I was able to resolve the issue after jump starting my car, but the next day the same thing happened.
Fast forward to today - I can't get my car started no MATTER WHAT I do. The battery voltage is more than fine, all of the connections look good too. I was thinking this may be an alternator issue, but if it were I would think the issue could be temporarily resolved by charging up the battery. I've tried BOTH sets of keys to troubleshoot the "pass-key 3" system. I've disconnected my remote starter system (thinking that maybe it was malfunctioning, sending a kill signal to the car), and I have also disconnected my amp and sub. I've checked all the fuses and swapped around all of the relays pertaining to start or ignition.
The battery seems to be doing it's job just fine, as when I turn the key to the "on" position, the air still blows, the lights still come on, and practically everything is working except for the driving/starting functionality itself! One last detail that I'll include is this: I noticed that on my driver information center, my average fuel economy USED TO show up even when my car was in the on position (NOT running), but now it just shows dashes after the words "average fuel mpg". The same is true about tire pressure, fuel range, and almost everything EXCEPT for battery voltage (which reads a healthy 12.6v), and my trip gauges (trip1 & trip2).
I am absolutely clueless as to what this issue could be. If there are any more details that I can provide to make resolving the issue easier please do let me know, I just really want my car to work again.
Thanks in advance everyone - I do apologize if something similar has been covered before. I tried my best to scour the internet in search of a similar issue, but this is such a specific scenario that I figured it would be best to start from scratch and post my own.
