Noob problem with Gas Cap .. sharing so others don't feel my shame

I turned Auto Lock OFF in Settings.
I turned it on. The carbon in the remotes will wear off and the day will come when you need to fix it cause it won't work. As far as how long the remote will work ?, I plan to find out.

I haven't looked at it from inside yet but I wonder if there is a way to rig up a manual release, or even something you could jumper it with 12V to get it to release. Somewhere on this forum is story of guy who had a BCM problem that prevented it from working and he couldn't put gas in it. I'd be open to disabling the fuel door lock altogether or putting in a toggle switch so it would engage only when I wanted.

That guy was me. My fob, buttons on the door handles, and internal door lock controls were not working due to heavy rains. Yep, all windows were completely shut. This has happened at least twice now. They apparently dry out after a day or two, and everything starts working fine again. Not a solution. I took to Buick dealer and they took a look at it during my first oil change/tire rotation.

Tech told me they ordered some parts; I don't recall what exactly (not BCM, even though I mentioned that he could find the exact fix here on this forum - he told me "You can't trust the internet, people lie on purpose," etc. which yeah I can see that in some cases but mmm have a real hard time seeing it in this one).

He also ordered a replacement for my blown driver door speaker. Said all parts would take 3-5 days to arrive, and that they'd call me. That was over a month ago. No calls. Hard to get good help.

One other quick post ... went to get gas Tuesday evening. I always have the keyless entry fob in my pocket. Usually, when I get gas, the car doesn't tend to lock itself until I pop open the cap and go to the pump since I'm still close enough to the car. This time, though, I must have walked far enough around it that the car locked itself. I couldn't get the gas "door" open and started to panic .. thoought it was broke, thought I was going to have to try to pry it open and ruin it, or ruin the paint, or both .. then thankfully dawned on me that maybe the gas door locks when the car does.

Sure enough, I hit the unlock button on the fob and the gas door opens. So .. for any other dorks/noobs like me, know that your automatic locks also lock the gas door on your Regal Sportback, or at least they do on my 2018 model. : )

Ditto here on the first fill-up - it took me a puzzled minute to figure out that I had my doors set to lock after 10 seconds and that includes the gas cap. Now I comically race to the gas door. I could hit that rear door button but racing is more fun. Yes, I am insane.

There is no distance sensor. It’s all a timer. When the fob leaves the car, the car starts a 10 or second timer. When it expires, the doors lock. Doesn’t matter if you walk 100 feet or six inches.

I think my Gremlin needs a new stop watch.
