Hi,
I change the oil last June. I've made since than about 800 miles. At the car's board oil change sensor shows 30%.
What doers it mean? I visually checked the quality of the oil, it is not black (burned, used).
Should I keep running the car until it'll get 3000 mile?
What is the meaning of the percentage shown?

Thanks a lot!

You need to reset that monitor every time you change your oil. Procedure will be in the owner's manual. It's easy.

I did that immediately after I changed the oil. Thanks

It's called an oil-life monitor, and part of the oil's usable life factors in its age.

"Or a year" implies it's keeping track of miles AND time.

[GM/GMC, most of them use the same monitor/monitoring strategy]

This.

From my experience with general aviation airplanes, I changed the engine oil every 25 hours or three months, whichever came first. Why three months? Because an engine not being used doesn't get the chance to burn off accumulated moisture and all of the bad things that attach to that moisture.

If you have but 800 miles on your car since June, you're not getting the engine hot enough for long enough. The algorithm knows that. There aren't any sensors.

This is what I was thinking, a lot of short trips. I commute 120 miles per day. I'll go 16000km/10000 miles (forgot about it and realized I was was over due) and the monitor is still at 20%. I try to change the oil earlier than that because that is just to long if you ask me. I run synthetic and prefer to change the oil around 12000km. Will be doing it today at around 12000 km since last oil change. Monitor is at 37% today.
