Buick Ownership
Verano
Hi everyone. I just purchased a 2014 Verano Premium 2.4L 250HP with 91,000 miles on it for my daughter who is turning 16 in April. This is the first Buick I've ever bought. I parked the car in my driveway last night and the next morning noticed about 2-3 inch diameter oil spot under the car. Let me start off by saying I am not a car guy 🙂 So, I'm hoping to get some insight and experiences from those of you who are car people and or owned your Verano for a while. What are the major areas of interest that could be causing this problem? We purchased this model because it has good reviews and a fairly high overall reliability rating. Needless to say, this is not off to a good start. I'm already catastrophizing in my mind that I just blew a bunch of money on a car that's gonna be constant problem. Anyway, I've scheduled an appointment at a local shop but would like to get everyone's input and experiences with this issue and also overall experience with the car. Any advice on ownership and maintenance items to focus on would be greatly appreciated. Thank You so much!

Could be something simple like the oil filter or drain plug. You could crawl under the car and look and see where it's leaking from or wait until the shop puts car up on a lift. Ask them to show you the leak before they start repairs.

Thank you. I will make sure to have them show me where it is. I'll get under there and check it out before I take it in. Also, interested in any advice regarding preventative maintenance items that we can do now to assure that the care maintains reliability for my daughter when she drives it. Thanks Again!!

Update: I went and got under the car and there is definitely oil coating the front underside on what looks like a cover. The actual cover has a sizeable crack in it, which I assume is the origination of the oil leak. Possible a cracked oil pan from hitting something? Wondering if anyone has experienced this and if it's a major repair. Thanks.

Good choice for your daughter. I bought a 2013 for a winter car and it’s been great so far at 80000 miles. I am a car guy and changed the oil, transmission fluid and coolant. I had someone else do the front brakes and bled the fluid.

Newguy206, if you have the Premium trim, the engine size is 2 liters, not 2.4. That'll make a difference when ordering parts. When buying used, one always runs the risk of inherting someone else's problems. The shop should be able to ID and correct the source of the oil leak. One thing to keep in mind is this engine is turbocharged and it takes 6.3 qts of oil. As the engine accumulates more miles, Mobil 1 is probably one of the best ways to go. I'll switch my car at the next oil change. Good luck!

Thanks for the information! It’s going in to the shop next week. It will be interesting to hear what they find…hopefully not too crazy. I will post what they find. Thanks again for the input.
