Last couple of days my outside temp as indicated on my HVAC controller has been way off. Its about 60 degrees outside and my readout is saying its 98. I pulled the fuse to my HVAC system hoping it would possibly reset but no luck. At this time I'm suspicious of the outside air temp sensor on the front of the car which is fairly cheap to replace but before I do, was wondering if anybody knew of anything else it might be or if this was a problem others have had experience with. Any help appreciated. Thanks.

Yes, that would cause your HVAC to not work correctly. It can cause low cabin heat and or your A/C to not work correctly. I don’t know the exact details of your car but newer cars it may even effect engine performance depending of the car and how the outside temp sensor is wired in the system.. If it’s cheap to get and replace do it. Just make sure you actually need the sensor because sometimes they just have the holder clip break off and they fall somewhere they shouldn’t be.. Happend on my (and many others) 2014 Regal GS... Sensor is still good but the clip in the grill that holds it broke, so it fell down by the radiator end tank... It screwed with my heat and A/C and the car ran like crap lol

I have an issue with my Buick Encore outside temp reading at -40 at all time, so the AC compressor wont turn on. I replaced the temp sensor in the bumper because it was a cheap fix as you mentioned, but it did nothing. Same thing, -40. It must be the computer, because when I disconnect the battery, reconnect, and start the car, the AC works like a champ ( the outside temp reads " - - "). I thought that was a reset and we pretty happy. Nope, I shut the car off and next time I drove it, -40, no AC.

Does anyone know if I have to take it to a dealer for some sort of reset?

Thanks

Just replace the sensor. Our PA was reading all kinds of weird numbers. and all I did was to replace it. It took ten or fifteen minutes for it to read the right temp but it's been spot on ever since.

I did replace the sensor. It's been a few weeks now. Thanks for the response.

I did replace the sensor. That was my first move. It did not fix the problem. Any other ideas would be appreciated.

-40 sounds like default reading when no data available
