Got in my 04 Park Avenue to head off to work and heard something scraping underneath. Brought it back home, parked it and took the family van into work instead (terraza of course). Anyway it looks serious but I honestly haven't a clue what exactly "IT" is and I am at work thinking I'm gonna be in market for a new buick. 😮‍💨.. Can anybody identify what it is that has broke due to too severe rust? It's location is passenger side rear. Just in front of rear tire. She has just over 260,000 miles on her. Thank you for the help.

Anything can be welded to recreate what was once the original intention of the part. The trick is being able to find something non-rusty enough to weld to.

In other words, the repair will be an area much larger than the damage you see. If the rust has spread over a large enough area, the repair becomes so large and expensive that it exceeds the value of the whole car.

Two questions you’ll need to ask yourself are: Do you know of anyone, or any shop, that can fabricate and weld, and, how much is the car worth to you; finding a PA is near impossible anymore.

At 250k miles, you may have other issues soon that make doing this repair impractical.

Yea I sat down and drank about it for awhile. With 4 kids under 10 and a 50 hour a week job living in the rust belt, I am going to sigh and move on, as is life. Sell it too someone who has time and resources for the weld job. Engines got another 250k to go as long as they care for it..
