Hello everyone, my wife's 2016 Verano recently started with the check engine light and PO700 is the only code showing. When you clear the codes it takes it a few days to return and there are no other symptoms of anything wrong. We took it to a mechanic to get a diagnosis and they said it's either the valve body or it needs an entire new transmission. They also said the TCM was going offline sometimes but for some reason they did not provide a quote to just replace that part.

Has anyone had any similar experience with this and can tell me where the TCM is located?

Unfortunately, you are only reading the OBDII codes. The P0700 just says there is a problem in the transmission. You'll need to read the rest of the codes, specifically the ones stored in the transmission, to get more information. Even then, transmission codes, like emission codes, are only clues most of the time. The related systems will need to be diagnosed according to the GM diagnostic procedures. A P0700 usually means your car needs to go to a qualified shop for diagnosis, and most of the smaller/independent shops will not be able to help you.

Thank you for your response. Since we were not able to resolve the issue quickly my wife decided it meant she needed a new car and bought a Envision last weekend. I questioned buying another buick when the verano was potentially having a serious transmission issue at 77k miles but it wasn't my call.
