I have a 2011 LaCrosse with 40k miles. The car jumps from side to side on patchy ice or wet roads with puddles. The front tires are new Michelin Pilot HX MXM4 235/50/r18. I noticed it this winter on some patchy ice roads so I put new tires on the front. Car drives great on normal roads but is scary on roads with some standing water. Anyone else notice something like this. I don't know if it is the car or the tires. I recently had a tire allignment done.

Have a 2012 LAX with OEM Goodyear tires (19") and have had no issues on wet, snowy or icy roads. Have had Michelin tires on other vehicles which have always handled satisfactory on various types of road conditions. No suggestions to offer, just an observation.

If the new tires were the Pilots, that's the reason. The Pilots aren't very good on snow, ice or hydroplaning. Not a bad tire for dry road handling, but the MXV4 or MXM4 are way better all the way around. I won't run the stock Pilots in the winter here in Ohio.

1) Are the rear tires the same tread pattern as the front?
2) How worn are the rears?

Different patterns front and rear as well as big differences in the amount of tread (front and rear) can make a car squirrely in low traction situations.

Just a thought...

All the mainstream tire shops around here say to put your newest tires on the rear. I'd suggest to get another pair to make all 4 new and go from there, and keep them rotated on a regular schedule.
