How likely is this a turbo oil line (and internal turbo) issue?
  • Smoke from the tailpipe for the first 2 minutes of driving
  • Smoke from under the hood almost constantly (although it dies down quite a bit after running for 10-15 minutes)
  • The smoke from under the hood is coming from directly under the turbo heat shield

Thoughts?

The oil feed lines are known to leak in some cases.

That would explain the under hood smoke for sure. Do the feed lines have replaceable connectors or do I just replace the lines, connections and all?

Forgot to update this thread with the actual issue once I dug into it:
  1. The oil feed lines were definitely leaking around the seals. No bueno
  2. Decided to remove the whole turbo to look at everything (maybe it needed a rebuild)
  3. Bought all new seals/gaskets from the stealership
  4. Had a turbo shop give the turbo a once-over and balance
  5. Started to clean parts... got to the oil return drain tube. Uh oh...
    • It was clogged AF: this explains everything
    • When cold, the oil under pressure was working it's way through the labyrinth seal into the exhaust. Once it warmed up, that closed off but the pressure was pushing oil out of the seals around the feed lines.
  6. I had to make a metal corkscrew snake that I chucked up in my cordless to ream out the drain tube. It was blocked solid.
  7. Put everything back together with all new seals/gaskets.
  8. Swore a whole lot at the downpipe being in my way every single second
  9. Changed the oil - did a 250 mile seafoam flush and then new oil again.
  10. Now I have 5k miles on it and not a single puff of smoke.

Hope this helps someone in the future.
