century 2001
Hi i just bought a 2001 century custom, and it came with a jvc kd g230 (i think) system. it seems to always think that the car is off - i can not turn it on but i can load a cd and when i push the time button the time displays. resetting the thing didnt help me and now i have an additional problem that the time is incorrect!! does anyone know what i can do to fix this?

that may have nothing to do with the car may be just the radio or the wiring of the radio too the car, i would suggest taking it out and see how good or bad the wiring job is, or have someone ells do it.

your radio stays buy using a larger amount of power form your 12 volt battery when in accessory, and the 12 volt battery and the alternator while the car is running. when the car is turned compleetly off a small amount of current is sent too the radio to store information on things like the clock, the preset radio stations, as most radios do not have solid state memory.

now as far as radio not accepting CDS, or being hard to adjust, or other issues, sounds more like a radio issue to me, maybe the way its wired, perhaps the product is faulty... idk..

yeah, i spoke to the guy who sold me the car and he said he did not have a problem. i had it brought to a mechanic before i started using it to fix a few other problems. he may have messed w the wiring, because he seems like a guy who fixes one thing and messes another. can you tell me where to find the wiring?

well for one place you will need to open the dash and take the radio out. As you do keep an eye on the wires in the back.

What kind of work did you have the mechanic do? That could be the place to start if it was working before you got it back from him.

was computer and cat. i think i gave it to him w a broken gas gauge and now thats working (even though he told me that to fix that would reqire a new fuel pump)

which he did not put in

your best bet might be to pull the radio out and look at the wires. If you lucky and the former owner did not do a hack job, then the wires are intact and connected to the radio using an harness adapter.

It sounds like your memory wire(yellow and always with power is reversed with the red switched on power. Or the wires were tapped on a circuit that needs to be on(such as the rear defroster)

thank you all, ill have to try that. but i just want to clarify: i dont think the memory is affected, the time is only wrong because i hit the reset button, but i think its "consistently" wrong, that it keeps time just set wron. thats what i meant

no i said it DOES load cds. I said it acts as if the car is off......

Pull the radio out, verify your yellow and red wires are properly connected. Test radio before reinstall. If you are unsure if it is just the radio itself you can test the radio outside of the car by simply combining the red/yellow to a jumper wire to the battery +, and black to -.

To me, since you say the time is showing and you can load CD's, I wouldnt be surprised if its working fine and you just are not working it properly.

HAH! i was about to go taking out the whole deal when i noticed a fuze on the floor marke "2". 2? i checked the box and Lo! there it was! the empty "radio" slot!

thank you all for all your help!
