Hi I am new to the board. I just bought a used 02 Rendezvous CXL AWD with 46000 and we are only getting 14 mpg in town. I am wondering what everyone else might be getting. Shouldn't it getting about 18 or so in town driving?

Any help would be great.

Thanks
Kevin

🙄 We just purchase our 2002 and it is averaging about 17.8 MPG and she drives it about 60 miles round trip to work 4 days a week. Not sure if this is good or bad but our 94 Bonneville was getting 22.7 for the same trip. It has a 3.8 V6 so I would think it should be worse.

Hi,
Our former 2002 CXL AWD would get around 15-16 mpg in town and 22-23 mpg on the hiway. If it was hilly we would get less as the tranny down shifted so much.Sure wish they had put the 3800 in them or the SC3800 like our 98 Regal GS had.

Made a trip to Reno Nv. last weekend up Hwy 70 From Oroville Ca. the road was up and down hills curvy so I was on and off the pedal. averaged 19.7 going up. Coming home we went down Hwy 80 to Hwy 20 and then Hwy 70. The average milage for that leg of the trip was 22.7 mpg. The wife's new average to work and back (about 60 miles) is 18.6 so I am satisfied with this.

My wife's 2004 Ultra is getting 14.5 mpg in city driving. Only 1300 miles on it and weather has been very bad.

I JUST TALKED TO OUR BUICK DEALER ABOUT THE DECLINE IN MPG THEY COULD NOT FIND ANYTHING WRONG, SO THEY CALL BUICK TECH SERVICES AND TOLD THEM THEY ARE AWARE OF THE PROBLEM BUT THEY DON'T KNOW HOW TO FIX IT YET. SO THEY TOLD THE DEALER SHIP TO BRING MY CAR BACK IN TO INVESTIGATE THE PROBLEM. SO IF YOUR GETTING LOWER MILEAGE THAN YOU SHOULD CALL BUICK SO IF ENOUGH PEOPLE COMPLAIN THEY CAN HAVE A SERVICE BULLETIN COM OUT

I've been consistently getting 19mpg city and 24 mpg highway since new. I'm very happy with this considering the size/capability of the RDV. Glad I don't own an Expedition or Suburban right now...

Check your tire pressures, low tire pressure can impact MPG significantly. Also if the air filter need replacing, replace it.

I wonder if changing spark plugs earlier would help with milage. GM says the plugs are good for 100K. But these plugs fire 2x on each cycle. They fire on the exhaust stroke also to help burn waste gases and thus reduce emissions. So it seems we should be changing plugs at 50K. It's too bad it's such a PITA to get to the rear plugs.

Poor Milage

I ALSO BOUGHT A BUICK RENDEZVOUS AND FROM DAY ONE I'VE NEVER GOT GOOD MILAGE I ALSO WENT TO THE DEALERSHIP AND WAS TOLD NOTHING SHOW UP ON THE COMPUTER TO BE WRONG WHICH IS A BUNCH OF B.S . IF SOMEONE HAS A NUMBER OR EMAIL ADDRESS TO BUICK WHERE CAN CALL OR EMAil please let me know.

I have had mechanical problems but the milage has been great. were getting 24.8 mpg consistently. We live in a rural area so no stop lights so I guess you would consider this highway.

Gas Mileage

Vehicle’s owner manual and window sticker, on my 2004 Buick Rendezvous Ultra, stated 18/25 MPG. What I am getting is far off: vehicle averages 13 MPG city/highway…, when it should average 21.5 MPG, under normal driving conditions. Dealer I scanned and check system: OK, test-drove vehicle, 40 miles on freeway, average 18 MPG. Dealer II test-drove vehicle, 26 miles on freeway, average 27 MPG. The two dealers are incorrect! With a full tank of gas (18 gallons) vehicle’s driving range is between 215 to 250 miles, most likely depending on driving conditions. This is BULL SHIT! Contacted Buick’s customer service and they told me, since vehicle scanned and checked OK, there is nothing that can be done to correct problem. I kept all gas receipts to have proof of extremely poor gas mileage: 8-9 MPG city streets and 15-16 MPG highway. This vehicle takes a lot more gas than my nine year old 1996 Buick Roadmaster (V8 5.7L). Will BBB be able to help, or there is a different approach? Please advice.

I'm getting 19 city, 24 hwy, consistently. I'm seriously considering a "Tornado" or a cheap knock off. I had a couple of friends that tried it, one with an Avalanche 4X4 5.3, went from 19 hwy to 24 hwy, with no other mods, the other with a 2500HD 4X4 8.1, went from 13 hwy to 19 hwy, with no other mods.

miles per gallon

My Rendezvous was getting an unbeieveable 27 to 28 mpg on the highway and 21 to 22 in town, that is until winter got here and it has dropped to 22 highway and about the same in town. There is something that has to do with the thermostat. They put the scanner on it and the temp ran from 180 to 195. They put in another thermostat and it still does the same thing. They tell me that this is normal but I don't believe it. I have never seen a vehicle with a 195 degree thermostat vary that much. Any of you noticed your temp gauge? Thanks, Mack

What is your temp gauge showing? Since winter started I'm getting 4 mpg less than what I did in the summer. The temp in mine runs from 180 to 195 degrees. Something tells me that a thermostat don't usually vary that much.

Same thing happen to me. I noticed in the wintertime the thermostat does not warm up to 195. I think that is the problem. The sensors does not think the motor is hot enough so they send a signal to the computer to put in more gas. How? I don't know. My dealer put in a new thermostat but it still does the same. Thanks, driveatitleist

no frigginway. the 'Tornado" is a scam.
