Replacement speaker questions

my bad , evidently the radio does send it to the amp normally then it amps it. so you could bypass the amp for the rear speake, since the amp is what is doing the "bass only" thingView attachment 40378

Nice I found and downloaded that same diagram a little while back. Looking at it closer though I notice the radio only has 4 channel outputs (left front, right front, left rear, right rear) so it seems the amp is responsible for splitting all those up to go to 9 speakers...?

It would be nice to know the specs for the stock rear deck speakers (frequency range and Ohms rating) just to get an idea of what the amp is putting out.

OHM are usually printed on the back, frequency and other specs are a mystery for most GM speakers. On other amp systems HK, Bose they had a range of OHM's speakers so if the original was 4 OHM and they put in a 8 OHM it sounded like junk and the system was blamed. Good luck on getting it working.

The original part number is GM 0935 6759. It is a 4 ohm speaker. Could not find specs...a mystery.

The Magnadyne is a perfect replacement. It is a 4 ohm speaker, just like the stock speaker, and is designed as a "subwoofer" (these are not real subwoofers like a 10" would be, they are sometimes called mid-woofers). I think they do the job though. You may want more!

I replaced an original and paid well over $100 only to blow it again. Was mad about that!! The Magnadyne is holding up, and you can blow 4 or more for the price of one GM (which are getting hard to find!).

If you have 10 inch subs.. idont think the 400 watt amp (I think) is enough, but if you use the rear door for the rear shelf, you would have base only lines that need a purpose.
I dont know audio, could one steal the audio for the door and still have it "do" the door"? or is the amp likely not able to run 4 speakers are full range? (based on it being just for 2 originally)
From my understanding, one could try it, but when you start adding speakers you change the OHM load.

Two 8 ohm speakers in parallel makes for a 4 ohm load on the amp (for that channel). Two 4 ohm speakers would make for a 2 ohm load, and the amp would provide too much power and would probably blow.

yes. the original 6 speaker if you had no amp is done by the head unit directly
the center dash and the rear doors are the addition i think

That is my understanding as well!

Also... for the 9-speaker system, the rear deck speakers are not full range (like in the 6-speaker setup)...but are the 6 x 9 "subwoofers."

Thinking back, I also blew a CDT 6 x 9 subwoofer. So...the original blew, the CDT blew, and a new GM blew!

Well... I thought maybe it is not a speaker problem, but something else (like the head unit or the amp).

At that point I replaced the stock head unit with an aftermarket Pioneer, and found the inexpensive Magnadyne and used that.

That is the setup that is still working today..

yes thats what im talking about. WAIT. The rear deck IS full range in 9 speaker setup? Then it would be simple as run the feed from input of the Amp to to speakers(the right speakers if important too maybe) ? that makes sense to me at least. The head units are pretty decent power wise factory and if the only thing they are doing is the rear, 154watts on the rest , id imagine it wouldnt be knocking socks off but maybe a little vibration in your buttocks (in the seat)

From my understanding... The rear deck is Full Range in the 6-speaker setup... NOT the 9-speaker setup!
