Haven't seen this topic pop up in a while. So I'm starting a new thread.

I've had the intermittent "SD Card Error". See photos. It's not removed. Popping it out, blowing on it (ala old Nintendo cartridges 😉 ) and reinserting has been working for the past year. Now it's pretty much no read all the time, maybe works 1 out or 8 or 10 starts. It's annoying, but I'm a dedicated Wazer, so I'm not missing it. But now the console compartment 2 USB slots have stopped working -- I can't have hard line connection to the radio AND charging. The USBs and the Navigation SD cards are next to each other, so I'm guessing they are related. The USB slots facing the second row are OK...

I took a look in the fuse compartment and the mostly useless fuse compartment crib sheet in the manual. There isn't an obvious callout on the diagram that reads "Navigation System" or "Console USB". See more photos. On top of that, I can't even tell what kind of fuses these are (I'm old enough to remember only one style of fuse in my '69 Impala, '78 Century, etc.). Now there is Regular, APM/ATM Mini, APS Mini, Micro2, Micro3 (it's worse than USB types!). Plus they can't be easily identified without removing them. ARRGH! And honestly, I have little confidence that this is fuse-related issue anyway.

Any thoughts, sympathy, advice?

For now I'm using the cigarette lighter and Waze until my next oil change and I'll have it diagnosed at the dealership.

Thanks! OK. So far so good. I ordered the SD card from Amazon and it loaded and initialized properly. I'll keep updating to see if the problem reoccurs. I'm hoping that my USB cable problem is unrelated so I'm testing the cable (and replacing it as needed). A few observations:

1. The SD Card on the Amazon listing lists some Buicks (Encore, Enclave, Envision), but NOT specifically the TourX (or any Regal) as a compatible vehicle. But it's recommended by danzig997: so I trusted in my Forum brother! Of course it works.

2. I now know that the "VIN linking" means that the SD card get initialized to the VIN upon initial insertion, making it unusable in other vehicles. I used to think it was initialized BEFORE -- like HOW a key is cut based on the VIN -- and that the card gets programmed ahead of time by GM before they send it to you. For example, I had to supply the VIN of my wife's GMC Acadia before GM sent me the updated SD Card. But it's not that sophisticated.

3. After I switched the card, all my locations in memory were retained. Surprising, but i guess that in part how the map data is used by the navigation unit...

I am glad that new maps are working for you, the SD card from Amazon is a bargain compared with online GM resources or GM dealers.

Also, I recommend ditching connecting via USB cable and trying an AAWireless Android Auto device.

I encountered a strange issue on my car that was nav card related. I bought a cheap card for a few bucks on a lark. After I inserted it and got that error that it was already VIN locked. It disabled my built-in navigation, and my radar cruise control with it. Even after I put my OEM card back in my ACC remained disabled. I had a dealer look at it since I was still under warranty. They blamed it on the steering wheel button. I got one of those cards from eBay and my ACC started working after it went through the initialization. Dealer is still waiting on parts for that button replacement a year later. But I don't care too much since they were clearly just throwing parts at it without a clue.

There’s only a couple of things you can do to troubleshoot it, but you can determine two things with one step. You’re looking for 5VDC, so you’ll need a multimeter and a junk USB cable, preferably one that charges, but doesn’t sync. You cut the USB cable and strip the jacket off, exposing the conductors. You’ll have two wires; one is 5VDC+ and the other is a ground. If you can find 5VDC then you know two things, you have power at the car’s molex plug and that power is making it through the module and to your device.

Update: things are working OK for now. My USB tester (see attached) is reading 5.18V so the cable is working. I replaced it anyway. But things tended to have been intermittent with the Nav SD Card and the USB slot in the covered console. So, let's see how it goes.

FYI. I am connected to the radio via Bluetooth -- no gadgets needed. I can take phone calls and listen to music via Bluetooth from my phone to the car's radio system - can control the playback through the radio or using my phone app (I like Musicolet). The USB connection is mainly for power -- I like the cable routing better than the cigarette lighter.

I know that when I connect using the USB slot in the console, that I can have a wired connection for phone/music, but I don't care to connect my phone that way. Bluetooth.

Console USB ports are used by may GM vehicles, so they are relatively cheap and easy to obtain.
I did a whole write up around here somewhere. I wanted to upgrade the OEM single USB module to a module with dual USB and a 3.5mm analog audio port. I figured you could just change out the module, but it wasn’t quite that easy.

I ended up testing 3 or 4 different modules and documented what worked and what didn’t. That reminds me, I need to post them for sale on eBay.

My quest to upgrade the factory USB module in the center console is finally complete. I have replaced the factory-installed module, part #13596807, with part #13519224 and it works flawlessly.

I now have two power/data USB ports and a 3.5mm analog audio jack instead of just a single power/data USB port.

So, just to clarify the part numbers I tried, their port setup, and whether or not they worked, here’s a list:

I‘m still hoping to find a compatible module with the SD Card slot, but I can work with what I have.

Sorry to necro this post, but it seems like the issue I'm trying to resolve was referenced here.

The usb ports in my 2018 Regal Sportback stopped working a long time ago(tested with both Android Auto/usb drives). They still provide power, but AA won't start, and a thumb drive I used in the past stopped working.

I'd like to switch to a wireless adapter, but I would need to either replace the receptacle/cable or both. I'm thinking about just putting a new cable and stashing it and only connecting wirelessly, but can't find info on which port is used(I have used an adapter for audio). It seems like I'd need access to the bottom side of the receptacle to release the clips, which is something I don't want to do(removing center console).

Has anyone seen diagrams for the usb port on the head unit connectors? It looks like some models could use a standard usb cable?(image attached does not fit my car)

Also having the same issue recently. USB ports are no longer charging my phone or starting android auto (wireless charger doesn't charge my phone since its an older standard). This happened after the SD card error while using the navigation. Removing and reinserting the card doesn't work, the car has to be turned off and restarted. If the usb ports don't work, obviously a wireless android auto adaptor that needs a USB for power isn't going to work.

Saw a reply to this, forgot to come back with an update.

I was able to bypass the cable with a USB mini OTG cable plugged directly into the head unit. This is located near the passenger 'kick panel'. The plug GM uses for the stock cable is proprietary(as I had linked earlier), but it's just a mini usb housed in a custom plug. I hooked up a wireless dongle, and I'm now able to use AA.

@Undercover87T - I'm not sure if this would also work for you, I always had power to the ports(no data though).
