Hey guys. Finally bought myself a Park Ave and I love it. Its a 99 with no supercharger. Just the other day I got into the car after leaving Target and it would not start. No crank or attempt to turn can be heard. Not even a click! All lights come up on dash as normal. I even had it connected to my truck (after the tow home) to ensure it wasnt a battery issue but no good. My guess is that i had mistakenly brushed the key aganst the magnet i had just bought to fix the fuel gauge.

Should I be seeing the SECURITY light when I start the car? Because I dont.
Can i simply buy the key and perform a relearn or is a working key required?
Any suggestions before I begrudgingly place this beauty into the hands of a dealer?

If you have the "chip" key it's not really a chip but a resistor. The theft deterrent system checks that the key is creating the correct amount of resistance via the resistor. You can check the resistance by using a multi-meter one lead on each side of the key on the resistor.

There are several resistor types that each have their own resistance numbers - you car will be looking for one of those. I'm not sure how you get the correct number for your car but I do know there are a least a few threads here either on the PA or Lesabre forums that talk about it.

They also give a way for bypassing the key if you don't want to fool with it anymore.

I think there is also a fuse related to this system that you may want to check first.

There are two fuses that are on the PassKey III system your car has:

PCM Fuse 10 Amp - Underhood Fuse Block
PCM/CRU Fuse 10 Amp - Rear Junction Block

It could be a bad key reader in the ignition key slot.

Thanks Spriteman. Fuses looked ok and im going to try jumping the startrt solenoid today too.

One question: Should the SECURITY light at least blink when starting the car? I only see that light up when the door is opened (along with DOOR AJAR on console).

When you turn the ignition switch to ON, the security light should flash for 3-sec, then go out. After the initial sequence, if the security light remains ON (not flashing) you have a security problem.
