Hey Folks, I need some serious help. I'm a pretty good mechanic but this has me stumped. I have a 2000 LeSabre with 169,000 miles. I was coming down the road the other day and all of a sudden I lost all electrical power and the car shut off and the horns started blowing until the fuse blew so I did have power for the horn. I haven't had any issues or any other problems. The alternator is good, the battery has a full charge and tested good. I'm getting power to both fuse boxes, now the power seats work and the emergency flashers work, the fuses are good. I don't see any wires shorted. Is there a common issue that would cause this? ignition switch maybe? I hate to just throw parts at it and was hoping someone else had the same problem. You all's help is greatly appreciated. thank you

Did this event follow hitting a pothole or big bump? Have you checked the main fuses as well as the circuit fuses?

I would start with checking the battery cable wiring grounds to the engine block and starter. A jolt may have been the last straw for a corroded contact point.

Have your battery tested to make sure it has the proper volts AND amps to be healthy. Again, a jolt may have cracked a plate in an already weak battery.

Disconnect your negative battery cable (replace it while you’re at it) for at least 15 minutes, reconnect it and see if it resets, allowing the car to start.
