I posted here a bit before I bought a 1998 LeSabre with 38,000 miles. One of the few issues involved bad oxidation on the hood. I'm still working on that -- I think with the right polish and equipment, it can be solved. The other involved tears and stiff vinyl on the backseats -- a trip to a salvage yard yielded replacements (for $8 each!). Steamed them, put them upside down on outside to air out in the sun ... almost like new.
Now it appears that it could use new shocks. I'm thinking of going back to the salvage yards to see if struts are still attached on the LeSabres that yielded the new "old" seats. I don't mind paying for new shocks, but wonder if it's worth looking.
Few questions:
a) Is it worth the effort to disassemble struts from a junk yard? (my thinking is that it would be like "practice" to disassemble and make me more confident when I put them on mine).
b) How can I tell if shocks are good (at the junkyard ... pretty sure they are at best fair on mine)?
c) Does anyone know if shocks on 1998 are the same as those on other years (1991-99)?
Thanks for any feedback and info.
