So I've had my 98 Regal GS for a few months now and enjoy it for the most part, but today I found the cree led switchback bulbs I had In my mustang before I sold it and decided to try them In my regal (in place of the ugly existing amber halogen bulbs). I plug them in and nothing, when I take them out to put the old halogen bulbs back in I notice part of the led bulb melted inside the socket on the drivers side. I replace the amber bulbs and now I have no signal lights at all, the hazard flashers work but no signals. I've researched for hours and assume the cause is either the DRL controller module or the multifunction switch (or maybe just the socket the bulb melted a bit in?). I saw a YouTube video where a guy removed the DRL control module and spliced some wires to regain his signal function at the expense of the auto headlight/DRL function. If it is in fact this module and not the multi switch I need to know if splicing the wires will work without damaging anything or causing an electrical fire. I can't afford $300 to replace the module and need my car to get to work. Any advice is greatly appreciated and merry Xmas!

There's a few other things to check first. Not sure why led's would blow the fuse, but there is a separate fuse for the signals and the hazards, they both use the same flasher, but it sounds like it could be a turn signal fuse. You may need to inspect\replace the effected socket in order to keep the fuse from blowing as i'm not sure that a led would draw enough current on its own to blow the fuse. I could maybe see it altering the rate at which it blinks, but if i'm not mistaken leds are supposed to be just as bright or brighter while consuming less current. Also the front and rear turn signals use a dual filament bulb in the regal, not sure about the mustang, but i would think if it were a single element led, it may have something to do with why it wouldn't work properly.
